Zender, sweet Using this patch now and removed the tape from Pin20 and all is good.

Funny thing is that with the card i don't even have the 3rd Antenna yet but it's still going at N speeds, running at 130Mbps

Zender: did you modified X61s bios?

You are basically getting SuperG-like speeds (bonding 802.11g channels) not 802.11n Draft 2 speeds, which require 5Ghz channel support from the router.

The role that the 3rd antenna plays in achieving SuperG-like performance is fairly moot!

wait, so basically i can't get true N without 5Ghz? I know N supposedly tops out at 300Mbps but i guess that's ideal. Most people get in the range of 270Mbps (visually stated connection speed - not actual speed ) But to get those you need a 5Ghz router?

What's the benefit of the 40Mhz channels? I manualy set my channels because after scanning i found nothing on channels below 9... i guess the other people around here (including hidden SSIDs) have their routers on the default channel 11 but 1 person is on 9 for some weird reason. Total of 2 APs. So mine is on channel 1 and 3 for 2 continuous 20+20Mhz frequency. So you're saying even under perfect conditions it's not possible to get a stated max conection under the 2.4Ghz version?

It seems yeah i'm in the MIMO range (Dlink combo got 51Mbps total throughput on CNet Labs tests) ..... interesting.

My X61s now successfully use a Novatel EU870D HSDPA card. I flashed the bios from Zender and inserted the SIM card to its place and installed the HSDPA module to the 2nd mini-pci-express slot. I dont have HSDPA antenna in my x61s so I connected the two Wifi antenna cable to the card (It has 2 connectors, because it has diversity annenna system). At the next boot the Vista recognised the card. I installed Mobilink and connected successfully to the T-mobile network in Hungary (2700/350Kbps).

Now I have to order internal HSDPA antenna into my X61s and every connection will work again (temporarily disabled the Wlan in bios, because no antenna connected to the card).

Does anybody knows if I can use normal notebook Wifi antennas as HSDPA antenna (it works well now) ? (as I've seen in hardware maintenance manual the Siera Wireless card has only one antenna connector, so I cannot use the original antanna cabling to this card)

I dont have to disable the card. The power consumption is about 11-12w when not using the HSDPA connection an goes up to 17w when I use the HSDPA internet on high demand. I have 8cell battery, so the system work about 5 hours on Hsdpa internet connection!

Anyone try this on a t43 yet? Thanks.

Hi, sorry still fresh in WWAN PCIe, I am now using a T61P come with MC5725, but I am now in asia, which no CDMA around here, if I want to swap it to a MC8775, do I need orginal fru parts, a PCIe card in a 875U or just a normal MC8775 from sierra wireless? Or I also need to mod the bios too?? Many thanks. Steven

no-1802 is the patch for the T4x series, this one is for the newer machines x6x series (R6x, T6x, X6x)

Even though I was a bit shocked by the T43 BIOS, there are card IDs everywhere and when I've searched for one particular card, it was still in two BiosCode modules. But I quickly remembered to search for 2E01h and found the usual checking function, patched.
People reported that no-1802 doesn't work on T43, so I did it without thinking about that.
Many things keep me busy now, so still no public story and patching utilities, but PMs aren't eft unanswered

I am getting an x60s and want to replace the intel a/b/g wireless card with a dell broadcomm card, what do i need to do

He sent me a patch, and it works. The only thing it does is screw up the plug and play feature on my wired lan card, It gives me an error when i try to disable it in windows. But oh well, I'll just leave it on.

According to my understanding, Yes, you have to flash the modified BIOS if you want to use mini PCI card that are unauthorized by Lenovo. If don't want to flash the BIOS, just get an Lenovo-authorized one directly from Lenovo

If no one has tried, has any one an idea if it should work in theory (since the Intel 4965AGN was introduced as a part of the Santa Rosa platform)?

well did you read? I installed it into a T60 which isn't a stanta rosa. Several other people did also.

Alright, I'll be in need for the BIOS too. My T61p (6457-B68) came with the Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN which then broke and didnt work anymore. So I went to the local store and got a new one. I inserted it into the slot and got the 1802 error. I then tried to apply the NO-1802 fix via a bootable disk, which of course didnt work.

So I would like the BIOS aswell Will that version work for the T61p aswell?

Hi, I found today that the "1804 Unauthorized WAN card ..." message pops up on my x61t with Dell Wireless 5505 card while booting from cold start or after reset :- (
The card is recognized as modem and at LPT/COM device . Bios is ver.1.10. I can even log to my local internet network - but this message error 1804 is irritating.

So I reviewed all manuals, faqs, this forum and... I believe that the only way to stop it is via blocking sth at the bios.

He's obviously very sharp on BIOS work...and I noticed he has a link for 'services'.

I wonder if it you might want to contact him Zender, and see what he'd charge to fix some of the more complex/arcane things....like adding Fn5 support for non-IBM cards, removing the need to tape pin-20, etc..

He might be able to do several things at once at a pretty reasonable charge; because he'd be starting from the base of all the work you've done already.

Even if he needed, say, $500....I can't imagine this forum couldn't come up with 100 folks who'd drop 5 bucks in a heartbeat. I know I would.

I canceled my order with Lenovo for the X300+MC8755 because it takes 5-weeks to ship. Instead, I ordered an X300 that's in stock from a Dealer.

Now I want to get either MC8755 or MC8775 for this baby. Problem is -- I am not sure which is the safest bet?? MC8755 (1.8mbps) is the only one listed by Lenovo service manuals of the X300, but the MC8775 gives me 3.6mbps, but I don't know if there's a reason Lenovo isn't selling MC8775 with the X300. Which one has more chance to dodging the 1804/1802 error message? Does it matter if I buy it from Lenovo or not?

It is important that I be able to turn off the WWAN when not used, as Battery life is extremely important to me.

Any leads?

dozer: Actually it seems that the situation with Fn-F5/wireless-switch/taping pin 20 is better than I thought before. For *61 it seems to work flawlessly and after doing a more thorough patch for T60, someone reported running non-Lenovo Intel 4965AGN without taped pin, though not sure if it also meant wireless switch working.

Access Connections are a different problem, because they have their own list of supported cards, so we'll have to patch AccessConnections and not BIOS for this (which is much safer to do, so someone might just try...)

sayagain: Unfortunately, I've checked X300 BIOS and there are only two whitelisted WWAN devices, one is the 8755 and the second probably the CDMA/EVDO card. So the safest option is MC8755, if you want anything better, you'd have to patch your BIOS.

I must've misunderstood a post earlier in the thread...where it sounded like the card 'controls' issue was a firmware problem...as in, the non-ibm cards didn't have the right stuff.

Thanks for clarifying....and please do post when you get your page full of links done. I'm looking forward to being able to find the Pheonix tools etc. without hours of googling...

Well, that's exactly what I've said earlier and to some extent it seems to be so. No amount of patching got MC8775 taken from 875U USB modem to work in T60 without taping pin 20. Not even actually modifying the whitelist and replacing some other card ID there. So there probably is some difference between firmware of Lenovo and non-Lenovo version.
Maybe it's a problem only with the cards taken from USB modems, I don't know, it needs more information from people who try.

Zender, I will need to replace my WiFi card soon, to a card that's compatible with OS-X. I have a few cards in mind, but not sure which are white-listed by X300 Bios.
