Could someone PLEASE send me the bios for my x61 tablet wan? I have it all disassembled and ran into the 1804 error with my sprint 595u card! I'd love to get it work. Thanks so much in advance. Just pm me a link or I can send you my email.

I so has understood that to connect 4965AGN possible by means of closing PIN 20. Has Tried, but this did not help, don't care mistake 1802. That I do not so?

Hi' Guys
I also got the 1802 error after changing my WLAN. A quick 'Google' directed me to this page:

Which solved my problem.
I don't know if this has anything to do with Zender or any other guys in this forum, but it worked perfectly for me.

i figured that would probably be just like the T60 with Lenovo INtel card. I am using one without blocking Pin 20 but check the charts above i guess to make sure.

After my last email - I actually got round to trying the 8775V in the X300
Firstly, in the correct slot; the standard illegal LAN card BIOS message.
However, If I try it in the slot where the 4965 currently sits - there is no error... however, Vista doesnt detect so... no help there!

It's been already said by someone else here that WLAN/WWAN cards will work without error if you put them in swapped, but you'll have to tape pin 20 it seems, as it won't get reported to the BIOS.
The reason behind this is that WLAN cards are PCIexpress devices, whereas WWAN cards are USB devices (miniPCIe allows connection to both buses) and the whitelist checking routines look for the correct type of card, thus fails to see when the wrong one is put there - it sees no card.

Just wanna make sure, I wanna buy a generic(Non-Lenovo) MC8775 to replace my MC5720 in my T60p.Does it require flashing your moded-BIOS plus disabling the PIN20 on the card to make the 8775 work on my laptop?

Yes, non-Lenovo card requires patched BIOS. For *60 series it seems that no matter what we do, the BIOS disables non-Lenovo cards, unless the pin 20 is taped. *61 series seem not to disable the card, when the error 1804 is bypassed.
Sierra Wireless' Watcher software can always control the radio's on-off state, so there's no real problem with power management, you just possible won't have the convenience of AccessConnections integration and wireless switch.

Thanks for the info.BTW, you know does an HP OEM MC8775 work with thinkpads? Prices of these cards are much lower than the Lenovo original ones. But I just have no idea whether these HP cards would be compatible with my thinkpad

Hi Everyone,
I just thought I'd give a quick update on trying the 8775V in an X300...
The card does not work in the slot that it is designed for (illiegal WWAN card msg) - however, if you put it in the slot that has the 4965N the X300 can boot.
The card is detected and I have installed the sierra wiress driver (I could only find ASUS software that worked with the 8775V on vista)
The watcher software starts but show the radio as 'OFF' in trying to turn on the radio - it briefly turns on then straight off again... also at boot off the WWAN LED initialises and then switches off after about 1 second..
I guess the X300 would also need a modified bios to work???

Hi Zender, i've read in the X300 subforum that you've enable the FN-F5 for a MC8781 !
Is there a specific way to enable it for other cards ? (like non Lenovo MC8775 or other brand cards ?)

Yes, I think there is. Search AccessConnections folder for some existing devices ID and replace it with the one you have. Perhaps when you have MC8775, which is 1199,6812, search for "6813" (the Lenovo's version) and replace it with 6812. WWAN cards seem to be present in ACon.dll and AcAdaptersInfo.dll.
Be aware the strings are unicode, so each byte is 'padded' with 00h byte.
Intel 4965AGN's device ID.
However I wonder what will happen if you have pin 20 taped.

You are talking about a non-lenovo Intel card correct? Then if so then it should work but with some restrictions. The original Lenovo card will work without any mods of-course.

Working flawlessly ATM. No additional MODs. Many thanks to Zender.
But if upgrading the BIOS back to 2.14 this will reproduce the WLAN boot error.
After looking over the latest BOIS 2.14 from Lenovo it says its supports SSD. Do we know if 2.10 supports SSD even though Lenovo release notes doesn't mention it? My company is about to start upgrading to SSD for us frequent travels. So I may have to end up reverting back to the original WLAN card.

Request for a volunteer. Searching for test machine to test enlarging and reducing module size in BIOS file. I can't finish autopatching tools without that and as new BIOS versions come out and some machines still don't have any BIOS patched, it would be nice to have it automated. Not to mention it'd be something I can make public.
Test machine needs to be a recent ThinkPad with compressed BIOS modules (unfortunately can't test this with anything older than T43, so only T43 and newer, or similarly new machine from other (R,X) series). Actually it does not need to be more than a motherboard which manages to pass POST and you can check if it passed.
I have good reasons to believe the method I have implemented is correct, Phoenix BIOS editor accepts it and actually would make it the same way as me - but there's a slight risk of "Lenovo proprietary improvement", which might break it.

I wanted to replace original US Intel 3945 so I bought european 4965 on ebay and in title there was it's for Dell. I ignored this and bought it as the cheapest one, not knowing anything about white-listing (I replaced b-wifi with abg in my old Dell D600 with no problem). Of course, 1802 error and it is not possible to turn the wifi off in BIOS to at least boot.
I used friend's computer to search for this, I wanted to solve it instantly if possible and I found your thread. Seeing that I'll have to wait a while and that I have to open it again anyway, I started playing with my two cards:
BTW: It's T61p in signature, model 6459-CTO and Win XP pro SP2 (and all updates)
1. First I placed 3945 to WWAN slot alone (!). It booted and card was detected, but driver installation failed as the "device cannot be started" or something like that (I have czech windows, sorry). 2 of 3 antenna cables are long enough to reach card in this slot without a problem (short cable is for the primary antenna).
2. Then I placed 4965 to WWAN slot alone. It booted without 1802 or 1804 and card was recognized with succesfull driver installation. BUT, later I found out that it cannot recognize any network and led doesn't work, but more about this in next one.
3. 3945 and 4965 connected simultaneously, with 3945 in WLAN slot and 4965 in WWAN slot (vice versa I get 1802 error for 4965). I find an idea of having two wifi-cards in laptop somehow cool, though I will hardly find any practical use anytime soon. Perhaps for sharing internet or bridging two networks ... interesting mod anyway.
Both cards are recognized and installed succesfully. Using zero-config, I can find networks through 3945, that works normally. I cannot find any networks through 4965, I guess the same thing as if it was turned of by fn-f5 menu. And really, when I go to this menu, wifi is turned off there and if I click on turn on button, it freezes for a while, but after that won't turn it on. Meanwhile 3945 is working.
When I go to Access Connections and try to find networks, it finds nothing and search itself lasts only like tenth of second, so like if it was turned off - this was in fact reported by AC several times asking me if I want to turn it on first, but after a while (longer than usual) empty search again. All this time wifi led is turned off.
I tried installing Intel Drivers instead of Lenovo that were there before, so I returned to Lenovo's to get fn-f5 and Access Conn. interoperability, no difference there (I guess just small modification of ProSet).
I wanted to end with it after that and get rid of useless icon in systray so I disabled 4965 in device manager. After reboot, LED started to work and reflected operation of 3945. Also fn-f5 menu could turn it on/off and AC found networks through in also being able to turn it on.
So I have both cards plugged right now, being connected to internet by 3945, while 4965 is disabled and everything goes like when there was only the original card. Maybe 4965 is just malfunctional and that's why the radio doesn't work - I can check this when I have modified BIOS and can plug it to WLAN slot.
More probably the card is disabled because of being in WWAN slot or because not on white-list (would start working with modified BIOS).
Another possibility, as I've read anywhere else, could be changing of 4965 mini-PCI express card identification to Lenovo's. There was mentioned that you would need a computer without white-listing or external connecting device. It wouldn't have any problem with further BIOS updates and warranty due to modified BIOS.
Well I have the card connected and I am able to boot, what about that?

well as you read through most of the thread you no doubtedly know that you have to use Zender's BIOS hack to install ANY NON-Lenovo card. If it's not from Lenovo and you want it in your T61P then you have to install the BIOS to get it to work.
Taping PIN20 on the card is also required for it to work too in some cases. Depending on the hack available you might or might not need to tape pin20. So get to reading and asking Zender for the BIOS page and see which one would work for you.

Your card will work in the WWAN slot if you tape pin 20 on the card, so that it's isolated from the system and the machine can't send disable signal over it. This will work even without the BIOS patch, but the problem is with the antenna wires.
MiniPCIe allows connection to both USB and PCIe buses and the whitelists check only devices of expected type, so WLAN card (PCIe device) in WWAN slot (expected USB device) results in BIOS detecting no device and simply disabling that slot. The same is vice versa.

Thank you so much! This worked perfectly on my T61 (7662-CTO).
It allows me to use the wlan power switch to turn the card on and off. However pressing Fn + F5 only allows me to turn off bluetooth (who cares).
The card also works perfectly under Linux.
The card is a "GIGABYTE GN-WI06N 802.11N a/b/g/n -Atheros AR5008 chipset AirCruiser N300 Dual Band Mini Card"

I didn't need modded BIOS for this setting. Problem was that I want to use 4965 as primary card and in WWAN it doesn't use LED and antenna cables are short or hard to lead there.
Then I used BIOS mod C and switched cards, so 4965 is in WLAN slot without taping and 3945 in WWAN with taped pin 20.
4965 is using all 3 build-in antennas and 3945 doesn't have any (waiting for them to come from China, so month or so) and is disabled for power-saving.
Anyway when both are turned on, both can detect networks, fn+f5 and AC use 4965 and LED reflects 4965 now (so I think it is driver dependent and it always works with WLAN slot only ... wondering if WWAN led isn't blinking for the other one, I have it covered, but probably not as the WWAN slot is officially disabled).
BTW: I had feeling that 3945 is little bit more sensitive than 4965

I went to install the modified T60 2.21 BIOS today but the install utility told me an upgrade wasn't need at this time! I checked and found I already had the Lenovo T60 2.21 BIOS installed
So, I had to install a copy of the T60 2.20 BIOS, then install the modified T60 2.21 BIOS.
Anyway, after all that I have a Lenovo 4965AGN running in my T60... its much more stable than the Atheros 5008 card I'd tried previously and I can use Bluetoooth and 802.11n simultaneously. Woohoo!

And I used ordinary transparent tape, from which I cut small stripe in size of pin using a cutter. It can move on the surface, but it's tight enough to stay in place while the card is being put into the slot.
