ThinkPad BIOS whitelist (error 1802/1804) *READ 1st MSG*
awesome. i might take a look at it during the day if i have some downtime, i have a t60 here at work, and since you mentioned that the function is the same, it's probably worth it to familiarize myself with it. the nice thing is that i won't have to recompile all the apps like i did for linux since (of course) we use windows at work...

You can contact me MP, please.
Thank you.

Intel 4965 non Lenovo on T60 1952-43G....OK
T60 + Vista Business 32bit/SP1 RC + Intel 4965 non Lenovo
Used modified 2.21 BIOS in order:
- revert back to 2.20 (bootable CD RW - LENOVO)
- flashing modified 2.21 using ISO/bootable CDROM from Zender
- installing Intel 4965 card
- installing standard drivers Intel 4965 AGN
- installing a Third Antenna (Small grey X31 original IBM)
- not putting small piece of tape to the pin 20 (bottom side of the card, second pin on the left from key) -
... it works! ...But
- Thinkpad Wireless LED: works without interruption.
Fn+F5 and Wifi Switch : OK for two.
Special Thanks for ZENDER and this great works.

hi all!
how many users have already tried to flash their X61 successfully?
i have an X61 model 7676-58U. i extracted a MC8775 card from a AirCard 875U and inserted it into the free slot next to the wifi card and got the error message and told to remove WWAN card.
my laptop does not have the extra antenna for the WWAN card. so my questions are:
1. what do i need from Zender to get this X61 to boot with the WWAN card inside?
2. do i need to make some kind of antenna for the WWAN card?
i mostly use Linux and don't care if the card is unusable in windows.
any help appreciated.

i used winphlash, it is windows only app. , so no boot disc needed.
i can only say it worked for myself and 1 other member( who can identify themselves if they wish, i wont do it for them).
to say if this method is 100% safe i will leave that up to the master himself zender
i informed our pal zender on every step that i took to let him know, what worked for me, so when he has time he can take a look and give his opinion.
cheers

thanks for the tip. Time to install windows.
...hours later...
Hooray, I am posting from my HP hs2300 HSDPA Broadband Wireless Module in Mac OS X. The windows bios update utility did the trick. I used WINUPTP. For the antenna, I just borrowed the MAIN antenna from the WIFI, and left the AUX hooked up. I'm unable to notice any change in WIFI signal at all. Strangely, the signal was terrible with just MAIN hooked up.

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Zender,
I have a T61 (7663-86d) and a Sierra Wireless MC5775 card available for testing. This card has been confirmed to result in the 1804 error during post.
I will be more than happy to model this BIOS under the conditions mentioned in your previous post.

sleep troubles
Hello,
I thought everything was working great, but I've discovered that the pin 20 trick that I have to use prevents my laptop from sleeping. Can anyone suggest a specific card which works without the pin 20 trick?

I have (well, will have in short of a few weeks) a brand spanking new X61S. I work as a cable technician - and am going to use this for work! I plan on getting a hacked MC8775 off ebay, and I just had a few questions and confirmations for you all. (they provide us with toughbooks - but i'm a contractor, and they don't exactly give us new ones... CF-27 they gave me)
Zender; can I get your modified bios? the one i've been reading so much about?
I'll test out your not taping pin 20 since this is an x61 & using fn+F5 or whatever the combo for wireless.
I read around that "all" X61's have a built in sim card slot. True/False? or do some PCI-e cards have the sim card slot in them?
The antenna - is it possible to use the wlan antenna for the wwan? (i.e. connector the same, poor reception if you do?)
Thx everybody in advance for any input.

Judging from image of the sim card slot in X61 and parts list, it seems that your chances aren't very good. It's directly on motherboard, so if it's not there, you're basically out of luck.
Actually, there is a miniPCIe WWAN card from Novatel with integrated SIM slot, but it's basically added on top of the card, making it more thick - which may, or may not fit the X61. Might also prove to be hard to get.
As for antennas... if you don't have them installed, adding them would mean replacing about all of the display part except for the LCD itself. You can use a wifi antenna, the connectors are compatible, but the signal reception will be poor at best.
More to be aware of... you might actually end up with systemboard which does not have second miniPCIe slot at all. So check everything before carrying out further actions.

Request: Mod Bios for X60T
Hi there,
has anyone already modded a X60T Bios to allow other WLAN boards? I would like to use my broadcom wlan card but get a 1802 error upon start (I'm triple booting and OSX does not support my intel wlan board at the moment.)
So I bought a broadcom wlan card that is supposed to work in windows, linux and osx, but cannot boot my machine
any help appreciated.
thanks

Plan to burn T60p WS modified BIOS 1.14
This one is listed as not having been tried yet. I'm prepared to give it a try but I would appreciate some comment on the following.
How many machines have been bricked out what total during the development of these modified BIOSes? (I wish to quantify the risk.) Zender probably has the answer to this question.
Is there a means of recovering if bad things happen?
Ted

Hello,
you can use the tested one, albeit it'll cost you wireless switch and maybe also Fn-F5 on/off control.
As for bricked machines... there were none bricked by the BIOS modification itself.
As far as I remember, there was one machine bricked during downgrading BIOS (something like 2.20 to 2.19, because Lenovo BIOS utility doesn't allow you flash modded 2.20 over normal 2.20 saying it's not needed), the flashing failed and machine was dead. Basically this is the risk with any BIOS update and the person got it serviced in warranty. After that he installed the modified BIOS without any problems.
During the "development", there was one machine (T30 provided for testing by forum member bonnem) which had incorrent code in BIOS, as I got too confident and mistook ethernet/boot checking with the wlan check. Fortunately, the machine was still bootable from CD and could be flashed back.
No more incidents to my knowledge. Also approximately last 10 patched BIOSes had the actual BIOS code modified automatically (wrote a program for that), and about half of them has already been tested, so the risk should be very low. Yet never zero.
As for means of recovering... I know of none. Phoenix BIOS offers the possibility for failsafe BIOS flashing, but it's very probably not been implemented by Lenovo, or it's not known how to invoke it. Might be security concern? Who knows.
Maybe the hardware approach, as in locating the BIOS chip, getting it off the mainboard, flashing by external programmer and putting back. Have no idea if it's actually possible.

flash2 /u problems
I attempted to flash my machine with the modified T60p WS 1.14 bios today.
When I run flash2 /u I am confronted with a warning that bitlocker is present and to disable it before proceeding at which point flash2 terminates.
Control of bitlocker is supposed to be under control panel > security but it is not present. I suspect the clanger is that I have Vista Business with SP1 installed and there seems to have been a change regarding bitlocker implementation.
Any guidance would be appreciated.
