Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
@ssd_thinkpad: Yes, it is. I've seen that particular card and it had problems using HSDPA on local 3G network, it only ran on 384kbps/UMTS instead of HSDPA, but it worked and was whitelisted.
@talonmies: Try just taping pin 20 on the card. That is, preventing the pin from making eletrical contact with the slot by using small piece of tape.
Pin 20 is on the bottom, longer side, second from the key. Picture.

Hi,talonmies wrote:Hi,
When I boot my t61p with 3rd party wlan or Ericsson wwan card (S/N below),
I don't get this error 1802/1804.
Computer boots normally, but Windows doesn't find these cards.
I haven't read whole topic and I think my problem belongs this section.
Will modified BIOS fix this problem or
do I need to use only minipcie cards which are made for my Thinkpad model? =(
I have checked the connections and minipcie slots are working (tested with t61p wlan card)
I don't have wwan antenna cables yet but I don't think this is the problem.
I have:
T61p (6460-6yg) with changed planar 44c3931, BIOS 2.25-1.08
and Lenovo Ericsson F3507g 3G HSDPA WWAN (S/N 43Y6513) <- used in t400 or etc
and yes, SIM card reader (42W7809) <- used in my model
You should check in the device manager (press Start, right click My Computer/manage/device manager) and look for the modem and network adapter you have installed, if they don't show or are with a yellow excl. mark, you should look for the driver package for the card you have installed, try to google it.
You may also search the Lenovo support for the matching wwan card driver.
As far as I know, it you did not get any error while booting, there is nothing wrong with the bios so no need to flash a mod one.
You may also look for the drivers in other topics of this forum, you may find somebody who posted where it can be found.
Good luck.
Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
@Zender: your instructions worked! I can't believe that was a workaround for that ;)
I didn't even think that there is somekind of hardware disable thingie causing this.
THANKS ALOT!
@pandavi: as soon I covered the pin20 as Zender instructed,
windows found the modem and asked for the drivers,
I got them from Lenovo and my f3507g installed perfectly.
ps. I have experience with hardware installation on
Windows machines over 10years so those were first things I checked ;)
anyways, thanks pandavi for your help o/

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
It seems that more and more people try to put Intel Wifi+Wimax 5350 in *60/*61 series machines. There are problems with that:
1. MiniPCIe slot provides (rather, can provide) two connections: PCI-express and USB
2. T61 WLAN slot only has PCI-express, WWAN has both PCI-express and USB (I cannot say this is true for all T61 machines, neither that it can be generalized to other *6x machines, but it happened to people)
3. Traditionally, WLAN cards use PCIe connection, whereas WWAN cards use USB connection, but 5350 card uses both - PCIe for WLAN and USB for Wimax
Which means that if one puts 5350 to WLAN slot, the USB part (Wimax part) is not seen. In WWAN slot it works well, because it has both connections. Similarly, WWAN card does not work in WLAN slot, because it only uses USB bus, which is not wired there.
Also, another problem could be with Wimax using different frequencies than Wifi, to which the T61 antenna array probably isn't very sensitive (isn't tuned).

OK - Can confirm the following for an Intel 5350 installed in a T60p 2007-8DG (ATi V5200)
In WLAN slot - Only the WLAN part of the Intel 5350 is seen - No WiMax (as mentioned by Zender)
In WWAN slot - Only the WiMax part of the Intel 5350 is seen - No WLAN
It would be helpful if anyone can confirm their findings for other T60/p types with an Intel 5350 installed.

hello all, i have an interesting problem. I downloaded the updated drivers from zender for a T43 and tried to install them. I follow all the directions and get to install and it says the update is not needed at this time and wont install the modified Bios. I cant figure out how to force it to load the modified bios. any help would be appreciated.

Type flash2 /u to force update when you already have this version.

After you have booted from the CD.
Instead of typing in "command" you type in "flash2 /u"

thank you for the info! I never had to type in command though. I figured it out, just down graded the bios the upgraded again with zender's bios. duh... I should have thought of that to begin with. lol.

Zender,
Your work with the Thinkpad BIOSes is awesome and the community owes you big time. As you have contributed so much, I am hesitant to ask for more....
Admin Edit: You need to be a lot more than hesitant. Attempting a major highjack of this thread is very anti-social, so dont try it again!

Hi Zender, havent visited your site for quite a while...it seems that things have been updated since my last visit. Can you please message me the latest location of the bios? Thanks much....
Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Hi, I have a t60 1953-DAU and intel 4965AGN card with FRU 42T0865.
Using the card (from a t61) causes the infamous 1802 error. I'd greatly appreciate it if you sent me the modified bios.
I sent a message to zender on Wednesday, but haven't gotten a response yet. I noticed a few others who have t60 laptops got the bios, maybe I could get it from one of you.
Thanks,
cirthix
EDIT: got it, thanks zender.
I can confirm that a t60 1953-DAU and intel 4965AGN card with FRU 42T0865 (from a t61) work nicely together with the new bios.

Just a quick thanks to Zender! Thanks, you rock! Your BIOS fixed my "unauthorized NIC" blues...
Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Thanks a lot! It worked great, updated bios flashed in less than a minute. Radio switches work and I am current typing this through my wireless network.
Much appreciation.

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
hi to everyone! (excuse me for my little english, i'm italian )
Thanks for you ! This forum have solved my problems , i've got a T60 , and when i tryed to replace my wirless mini pci-e with another one,
it gave me "error 1802"
So, i've read this topic and send a pm to Zender for help me to make a bios fix for my model ( i've just tried with the "no-1802" patch from DOS, but i doesen't work!
)
I've only little question: after i'll receive the modbios, how i can flash it easily?
Thanks to everyone for help!
Bye!

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Hey,
Nice work on the T6x, I have a W500 and my company manfactures embedded devices so I have spare miniPCIe modems around and I was annoyed to find my machine would boot due to the "1804: Unauthorized WAN card..." that is complete BS the modules are approved and I should be able to fit one to my machine.
So has anyone done the mod on W500 BIOS

Success & great work! Updated my bios on X60T 6363-C7G - and my new non FRU broadcom draft n card works
It's so much faster than my previous atheros card, even in G mode.
Thx to zender. Great work and nice help
Tried to patch the bios myself, but at the point where to increase the filesize of the mod, I had to surrender..
Thx to zender. Great work and nice help

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Actually, I have learned at some Chinese forum, that it seems to work to just zero-pad (as in 00h byte) at the end and then do the replace (with phnxmod). I originally thought this would work, but one can never be sure and it was unnecessary risk, given that I had a working method.
(yes, there's an incomplete guide to do the mod; the phnxpatch part has been released just recently - and apparently monkey243 has already made an image guide out of it: http://forum.51nb.com/viewthread.php?tid=835012 ).

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Guys, I have a small problem and you're probably the only ones who can help me.
I've just upgraded my Atheros N mini pcie card to an Intel 5350 (bought from ebay). The problem is that only the wifi driver works. The wimax driver doesn't installs correctly and the Intel Connectivity app keeps telling me "wimax is not ready".
Ive read that the slot in which I've put the 5350 might not have a connection to USB. Is there anyway I can make this link my self? Sold some wires, cover some pins?
Thank you very much!
ps. the laptop is an Acer Aspire 6930G, though tonight I'm gonna try this 5350 on a X60 tablet.

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Hello everybody! I have a T60 and an Intel WM3945ABG wifi card inside. Yesterday i found a patched BIOS in a chinese forum (ver 2.22) and flashed it up to my T60. After that the error 1802 doesnt appears, the Windows successfully recognized the card, drivers all OK,
BUT! There was not able to find any network, the card seems to be turned off. I find out the PIN20 trick and it works now, but if you have a proper solution to make the hardware radio switch work please give me the solution. In this thread i read that Zender has the solution. Please Zender contact me in PM.
Best Regards,
Sabolch Greba from Ukraine
Sorry for my bad English, im from Ukraine, but im a Hungarian live here. I have problems with Ukraine language too xD

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Reporting success on a Thinkpad X301. I never booted into Vista with this laptop, I installed Debian onto it as soon as I got it. Here is what I has to do to get Zender's BIOS onto an X301 with GNU/Linux:
First, get the BIOS file .zip that Zender has made, then unzip to see the 2 files. You only need the $01BD000.fl1 file with md5sum a8ac101a3c5a64584219b612848933bc (this is for version 6EET40WW 3.00 of Zender's hacked BIOS).
Second, get the BIOS Update Bootable CD image from Lenovo's website here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 70466.html The filename will be 6euj30uc.iso and my md5sum reports 22f48f4115b8ec02eab0eb1bfdffcbba. This ISO, if mounted or burned, appears to be empty (no files on the ISO9660 filesystem). This confused me at first, but then I found....
Now, check out some good info on http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/BIOS_upda ... tical_disk where they explain that this CD image is of BootMediaType=4 which has something to do with hard disk emulation as specified in the "El Torito” bootable CD image standard. You are going to need to use the isobar that has been ported to GNU/Linux linked to on the Thinkpad wiki to extract the FAT32 hard disk filesystem image on the ISO file.
So: download http://colimit.googlepages.com/isobar.c and compile it using "gcc isobar.c -o isobar" (Ubuntu users, make sure to have the package build-essentials for gcc). Now you can get that FAT32 disk image with "./isobar 6euj30uc.iso -o bios.img" and then you can mount the resulting FAT32 disk image with "sudo mount bios.img /mnt -o loop" which will mount it at the /mnt directory.
Now, you can swap out Zender's modified BIOS with the one in Lenovo's boot disk. Looking through /mnt shows us a 'flash' subdirectory and within that a '6eet40ww' directory. In there are Lenovo's .fl1 BIOS files. Replace Zender's BIOS with the one there... "sudo cp $01BD000.fl1 /mnt/flash/6eet40ww/" worked for me.
You can unmount the bios.img now that you have replaced the hacked BIOS: "sudo umount /mnt" Now we are ready to boot off of this thing!
After reading the aforementioned page on the thinkpad wiki, I decided it would be easiest to boot directly from GRUB as I already had it installed. I installed the syslinux package (using "sudo apt-get install syslinux") and copied the memdisk file it contained into the /boot directory with "sudo cp /usr/lib/syslinux/memdisk /boot/" and then the modified BIOS image to the same directory with "sudo cp bios.img /boot/".
Now, we need to modify GRUB configs to add a boot entry for this. There are two slightly different ways of doing this depending on if you run GRUB 1 (legacy) or the newer GRUB 2. I will include instructions for both, as they are somewhat similar.
GRUB 1:
Edit menu.lst with superuser privileges using the command "sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst" and add the following lines towards the end:
title BIOS update
root (hd0,0)
kernel /memdisk
initrd /bios.img
Save, exit, and boot from the "BIOS update" option in the GRUB menu and follow the (simple) steps.
GRUB 2:
Edit grub.conf with superuser privileges using the command "sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf" and add the following lines towards the end:
menuentry "BIOS update" {
root (hd0,1)
linux /memdisk
initrd /bios.img
}
Depending on your distribution, you may need to modify the permissions of grub.conf to give root write permissions, for example using this command: "sudo chmod 744 /boot/grub/grub.conf" Save, exit, and boot from the "BIOS update" option in the GRUB menu and follow the (simple) steps.
Now you should have a flashed BIOS. I noticed it would not work when you first reboot. You must go into the BIOS setup and then hit F10 for saving and rebooting once more. The error went away after that, and installing a new Atheros chipset card in the Mini PCI Express slot worked beautifully. Hurray for the ath9k driver in my Thinkpad X301!
Hope this helps any GNU/Linux users with other thinkpads, especially the X300 and X301. I found it pleasant to boot from GRUB and not have to deal with CDs at all.
*NOTE*: The first time I tried this, it hung booting from GRUB at the "loading PC DOS" line. This means you have a bad memdisk file. I was using the one from the syslinux package in Ubuntu jaunty which froze. I switched to the memdisk file from the Debian unstable package and it worked. Look around for a different memdisk file if you freeze at that step.

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Hi Guys,
I recent acquired a Intel 5350 card and would like to install it in my X61. I had requested zender for the updated bios, but may be he is busy. I would appreciate if someone has the latest X61 tablet bios from zender.
Thanks in advance for all the good work here.

Hello,
please, can somebody send me a link to patched bios for Z61m? I think it's same for all Z61 series.
My mail: vangelm@gmail.com.

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
Looking for help to get Zender's patched BIOS for my T60p, machine type 2623-ddu, so I can upgrade from MC5720 to MC5725.
Can someone send me a patched 2.23 BIOS version?
Have read all of the posts, but not a programmer, so prefer help from someone who has already got it working for the T60/T60p.
Thanks in advance...

Re: T6x BIOS device whitelist (error 1802/1804) [solved]
would the bios structure and the method for disabling the whitelist be significantly different in hacking the newer 3.0x firmware for a x200 tablet?
Version 3.06
* (New) Support for the "Devices and Printers" control panel of Windows7.
* (fix) A part of WMI may not be usable.
Version 3.02
* (New) Support for ConstantSecure Full Theft protection.
o (Note) When ConstantSecure is activated, the BIOS cannot be updated from 7XET52WW to the older versions.
* (New) Improved POST time.
o (Note) The operation to enter MEBx Setup was changed to a Boot Menu option by F12 from [ctrl-p] prompt during POST.
* (New) Support for MRC 2.7
* (Fix) The PIN entered for Bitlocker function on Windows Vista might not be correctly processed.
* (Fix) System hang may occur due to OS boot failure.
Version 3.00
* (New) Added support for Intel Anti-Theft Technology PC Protection (AT-p).
o Note: To use the Intel AT-p feature, "Intel AMT 4.1 - Management Engine Firmware" version 4.1.3 or higher must be installed into your computer.
* (New) Added support for ConstantSecure Remote Disable.
* (New) Added support for ConstantConnect.
* (New) Added support for ThinkVantage Hardware Password Manager.
o Note: If system protection function by Intel Anti-Theft Technology PC Protection, ConstantSecure Remote Disable or ThinkVantage Hardware Password Manager feature is still activated and when you try to get back to the older BIOS versions without these features, the following message will be displayed. This is to prevent system protection function from being deactivated.
o BIOS Update CD: "Error The system program file is not correct for this system"
o BIOS Update Utility: "The process does not recognize this system. The utility process has not completed."
o To get back to such the older BIOS versions, you should deactivate these features before applying the BIOS.
* (New) Saved about 1 to 3 seconds for system boot on the models with the finger print reader.
i'm somewhat familiar with bios hacking for SLP related issues for cablecard tuners.
