Greetings everyone,
When I first got my Thinkpad i used to be able to burn CDs and DVDs at the max. speed using the preinstalled burning software (sonic) but now I can't burn CDs faster then 6x and DVD at 1x I'm wondering what could have caused this slow down?
Any advise would be greatly appericated

My DMA is already enabled, yet I still get the same results - any thoughts?

are you using different brands of discs and getting the same results. Even if you burned with the same type of the same batch there could be some bad ones in there. EX i had some discs from a batch of 25 that wouldn't burn any faster than 2.4X while the rest was 8X.

With CD's its been different brands, with DVD's its been the same brand of disks. Same results across the board

well i guess you can just have the drive replaced. I had my drive NOT burning CDs bur could burn DVDs just fine (as well as the problem i mentioned above). I replaced it and all is fine now, i need to get some different brand discs tho cuz the ones i have worked on the older one too.

I've uninstalled the Sonic Software and am now using Nero, but my DVD speeds are incredibly slow. To burn 2GBs its taking nearly 45 mins. I have it sent at 8x and the discs i'm using are 16x discs. I'm still looking for an answer to this problem

After a little search online I found a solution. I uninstalled the drivers and restarted my computer, When windows recognized my drive (Device 0) again it was reset to Ultra DMA mode2.
Strange, I wonder why that happens and I wonder how I can prevent it from happening aga?
