Hi
I'm wondering about buying T61 14.1 WXGA+.
Do you think I should I be afraid that some 'new and really improved' model will be released really soon ?
I'm asking because those sales prices on lenovo's website are suspicious ....
Thanks

nah, probably not yet. There is always something on the horizon so stop checking it and see if what you have in front of you is good enough for what you'll need it for now and only slightly into the future.

Yes, because I just ordered one.
And later the very same day, news leaked about the X300.
Honestly, there is always going to be something new. Sometimes you just have to take the plunge and hope that you're timing isn't too awfully bad.

If you are not in need of a ThinkPad at this moment, I'd ride it out until the T62 hits the streets.
From all that I've been reading and personal experience with a T61, I would wait. There are just too many issues and too many out there that are not pleased with this particular unit.
This it up to you and I wish you good luck.
You may wish to look into picking up a new or near new T60 which in my opinion is a better unit then the T61.
Just my 2 cents

Truthfinder, could you elaborate a bit on why do you feel that T60 is better than T61?

Yes, please...
I really like my T61. Vista might be a bit of an issue, but DEFINATELY NOT the T61 itself...

Yes, it may just be that T61s purchased with VISTA is the problem child. Never the less, if Lenovo is selling ThinkPads with Vista and Vista is causing all these reported problems, then who is to blame!
In my opinion Microsoft put Vista to market in a rush, thus shoving a $#%#$% operating system to the market place.
I personally tried Vista in my T60 and found it to be more trouble than its worth, thus I'm going to stay with XP.
Vista brings back memories of Windows Millennium, but with a new face. And More (bells and Whistles)
Lenovo should have the good sense to NOT oofer Vista until such time as it is made to run in a Thinkpad properly.

A T61 will run Linux and even Mac OS X if you work at it, and next week you'll even be able to buy it with Linux pre-installed.

Microsoft has issued numerous patches to Vista during the last year. From my experience, Vista runs well on a T61 now.

lenovo is to blame. why not inform a potential customer about possible problems with Vista? or simply state: "this machine runs best with Windows XP." there thousands of options.

I don't think lenovo is to blame, they give you an option to choose, even to downgrade.
Those who have used initial releases of Windows 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, ME, or even XP must be familiar with Microsoft products by now, the initial releases are almost always not as pleasing until the impact of Service Packs, I remember in old days how cumbersome it was to find right device drivers, compared to complaining of those days today's rants about Windows Vista are nothing, by the way Vista is running fine on my thinkpad T60. Once Vista gets mature it will be as good as previous OS'es, if not better.

I must say I agree with
mattbiernat. Go to lenovo.com and customize an R61 or T61. There are six operating systems to choose from, including XP Pro, but Vista Home Premium is the one that has the words "Lenovo recommended" next to it.

Since you put it that way then one should question this from every major computer manufacturer:
HP recommends Windows Vista.
Dell recommends Windows Vista.
Acer recommends Windows Vista.
