T61 1680x1050 on LCD, but only 1440 as soon as external

Hi everybody
I've searched a bit around and didn't find anything usefull or even related so I'm starting a new thread. Hope I didn't miss anything in my searches, perhaps I used the wrong keywords.
The thing is this:
I got a T61 with a 15.4" widescreen display with a native resolution of 1680x1050 and it works really fine. Plugged in a docking station.
now i have a 19" Fujitsu-Siemens monitor at work and attached the DVI cable at the docking station.
i got the resolution 1280x1024 on the external monitor and it works fine as well.
but now there is only a 1440x900 resolution available on the notebook! that's very strange i suppose, the quality looked aweful and i changed the settings to center the image instead of stretching it, but now i have a large black space where the image was before with 1680x..
I can't even change the notebook settings to 1680 any more.
as soon as i unplug the external monitor i can.
display driver update didn't help.
any ideas?
much appreciated, thanks
greetings from austria
bye

small update after trying a bit more:
it works great
without the dockingstation.
if i keep the notebook docked in and use the analogue output of the T61, the external monitor is black but the notebook acts as if it would be ok.
everything is only ok if i completely dismiss the docking station.
could that be?

welcome to the forums,
my suggestion is to re-install the video driver from C:\swtools\drivers\video. You probably picked up s driver with M$ updates, which don't always work. OR, go to the Lenovo T61
driver matrix and download it.

tried this yesterday with
these drivers, should be the correct one i guess, installed version was only a small build before that with no major updates in the change-log.

Had exactly the same problem when using my T61p on a dock with a 19" LCD running dual display. I changed the drivers for the nVidia FX750m to this version which solved my problem: 6.14.11.5687. Not sure which display adapter you have but it sounds like a driver issue.

thanks for the info, now my hopes are up that this is indeed fixable
6.14.11.5687? funny, where did you get it? 6.14.11.5685 is the one i installed and i didn't find 5687 so far?
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M is the one in my system, but the drivers say NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M as well!

am I blind, do you have a direct link? much appreciated
on this page i get the message "no downloads found for your configuration" (quadro nvs mobile -> english or german -> win xp)
and when i use the tool to find it automatically i get this:
Product
Current Installed Driver
Recommended Driver
NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M
156.85
The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site.

I just had the same result at nVidia's site. Before Christmas it let me download the .5687 driver. Looks like the've changed some menus on the page.
You might try to look here for the newer version:

hi,
just a quick info:
i have another T61 that my co-worker got and on that new machine it worked after installing all the lenovo updates available.
then i updated my machine.
now it works.
but only with VGA. not with DVI.
on my co-workers T61 it also works with DVI, i only get the 1440 resolution.
well, i just stick with VGA and everything's cool!
thanks
bye

I have not been able to duplicate your issue on my T61 with the Nvidia 140M and the Lenovo Advanced Mini-dock. Using the current (and previous) versions of the Lenovo website drivers for the 140M, I always have gotten 1680x1050 through the VGA and DVI outputs (with a 22" WS external monitor who's native resolution is also 1680x1050) and also get 1680x1050 when undocked on the laptop's LCD.
Have you looked at your Lenovo Presentation Director settings regarding external monitors?
I also have set my laptop to do nothing when the cover is closed, for what it's worth.
