Which Warranty Upgrade is the right one for my T61p?

#1 Post by der Chris » Thu Jan 24, 2008 6:36 am

Hi,

a few days ago, I ordered a T61p (6459-CTO) with a three year EZ-Serve Warranty till February 2011. Now, I would like to upgrade the warranty to Onsite Service.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... D-WSU.html

If I look for the correct Upgrade Pack on the IBM/Lenovo-Website, it seems as if the machine originally has a one year warranty and the correct Upgrade Pack is 41C9168. But as I already have a three year Warranty, I believe than 41C9176 should be correct. Could anybody help me? The difference is over $100! If not, has anybody of you the correct email-adress of US-Entitlement-Team? On the website is only a phone number and the german Department doesn´t have infos on this US-Machine.

Thanks,

Chris

Unfortunately, upgrading warranty will be useless since the machine in question is not even covered under IWS (International warranty service) for your location:

International warranty service (IWS).

Also call lenovo (in your country) to confirm the results of above tool.

Hi,

thanks for your answer, but I already know that for this machine type, Germany is not listed in IWS. Till now, this was no problem here: I was able to order Recovery CDs. On top, its no problem if they won´t service the machine here, as I am in the states once a month. Which Pack is correct?

Thanks,

Chris

Part # 41C9168 is for your machine.

But 41C9168 dates a machine with a one year warranty up to three years onsite service. As I already have a three year EZ-Serve Warranty, I only need a upgrade to onsite service. With 41C9168 I would pay twice for to upgrade to 3 years... Are you sure?

Thanks,
Chris

Yes, I am. Part # 41C9176 is not meant for your machine type. Your machine 6459-CTO only comes with 1 Yr. standard Base warranty which you have already upgraded once to 3 years, now I'm not aware of the exact terms but there is a lenovo policy in place which states you can only upgrade your warranty once. This is something you should confirm about.

Hello,

I have a similar situation.
I bought my T60 8743-GZU new at Bestbuy on the 13th of July 2007, but checking the lenovo warranty website it says that my warranty will run out in 2 days (1-26-2008)

So I am checking ways to update/extend my warranty. I bought an incompatible warranty extention in Holland (where I am from). The Lenovo helpdesk garantied me it would be compatible.

The helpdesk here in Brazil says they can't help me and I should get a servicepac in the USA. (where they don't want to tell me which servicepac # is compatible with my t60)

The tabook that features my model lists a different servicepac than the lenovo website.

Can anyone tell me which part# is the right one for my machine and if I really will be out of warranty in two day?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I believe 41C9173 is the right pack for 5 years onsite service...
But it is really expensive!

Bye

Chris

Two things here, there is a difference between Warranty Upgrade and Warranty Extension. One should buy the former when their machine is still within it's original warranty period i.e. you've adequate length remaining. On the other hand, one should buy the latter when their warranty is about to expire or has expired, this type of warranty is called Post Warranty Service.

You (Latissimus Dorsi) can buy one of the followings depending on your preference:

41C9278 = 1YR Depot Repair.
41C9279 = 1YR Osite 9x5 next business day (NBD).
41C9280 = 2YR Depot Repair.
41C9281 = 2YR Osite 9x5 NBD.

I don't know how this works for retail stores (e.g. BestBuy) but at the time of purchase and Warranty Upgrade are the only opportunities when you can buy more than or eqaul to 3 years of warranty service.
