I just got my t61p from service (replaced LCD, plastic part???) and right as I opened it I found a small metal piece stuck near spacebar. It looks like clip piece or something. Then I noticed that if I push on plastic just below left Alt it travels about 2mm making creaky sound.
Does your thinkpad do this?

Lenovo warranty service broke something
There should not be that much travel in that particular area. Are all the screws on the bottom?
A call should be made to Lenovo and I am sure they will correct the problem.
I can't identify the small part.

There are typically two flat spring clips that act as grounds for the keyboard and palm rest located at the top and bottom of the RAM slot cavity in the rollcage. They probably got lose during servicing.
The middle part of the clips fit into the rollcage and the outer wings contact the keyboard/palm rest.
