I tried to look for one for you and myself, as I've never had it before but would like to have one for my Thinkpad, too. I found tons of versions for the T4x series, but not the right one for my laptop. Looks like someone in Germany is programming them. Is that right? University of Hamburg or some other one?

Don't despair.
The definitive thread on TPFC is here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17715
The most recent TPFC is in the last post in the signature of troubadix.
Enjoy,

Thank you. Ala.
You mean the latest one is the best for T60?
I checked that thread too, and that is exactly where I get lost. Too many choices. -0-

The recommended one is the most recent TPFC. I actually tried a bunch of them and they all worked well.
Set your INF settings, though, from someone's recommendation in the threads.

i use version 0.24 because it doesn't display temperature in the taskbar (sorry i really don't like that icon). it also worked well for me in the past 10 months and im not planning to change it unless there will be some major features offered in newer versions.

The author of this little program has created many versions as he has experimented over the past year or more.
Here is my favortie version:
this was downloaded from:
http://staff-www.uni-marburg.de/~schmitzr/tpfc_v041.zip
this is the best version for all four of my machines both Vista and XP.
After you unzip the program, there is a separate installation process (run the .exe) to set up a special interface application. This allows the program to run on your machine.
Make sure you uncheck all the boxes, as the author says to do. A reboot will be required.
Then you can change the .ini file to suit your tastes for when the fan changes speed, etc. Instructions are fairly clear, but are written by a German author, so translation could be off a bit.
There is the option to run as a Service, or just stand alone, by clicking the "tpfancontrol.exe" executable.
I prefer the stand alone method, as it does not install tpfancontrol on the machine.

Thanks, mgo.
using .41 version now and everything seems work for me. By the way, should I use the bios or smart mode?

By using Smart Mode, the machine will revert to bios automatically should the unit become too hot for the Smart mode to manage safely. (that's a built-in safety feature in the applet) Just make sure you do not change the .ini settings above "level=65"

I did not change anything in the .ini, or should I change something? based on your experience.

Since the program was created for the noisy T4x machines the .ini files are set for their needs.
Here are the settings I use for my personal T60 ThinkPads:
// Celsius: (IF Level FAN 0 < 80° -> Celsius is assumed)
Level=50 0
Level=55 1
Level=65 3
Level=70 6
Level=75 64
Usually the fan kicks on and off around 55 deg and does not do much more as I work and run programs.
