Hi,

I asked same thing in notebookreview. I am using
t61 14.1" 4:3.
I can hear tick tick plastic sound from the monitor
when i turn on t61. It's like a plastic sound that
something is poping inside in a monitor because
of the heat from monitor on. this is my guess.
Also, after the laptop is turned off, that sound
comes for a while.(though it's gone soon)
anyone experienced this?

someone in the forum said this is due to magnesium
material.

I feel build the quality of t61 is not so great. the
laptop makes some sounds whenever i touched in
the spots. i mean it is not solid.

This is not normal. Call IBM support at 1-800-426-7378, they'll be able to fix it for you. The service time takes around 3-5 business days at maximum.

Another option depending on if your thinkpad is still within 21 days of the invoice date (which will take more time) is to get in touch with sales department, obtain a RMA, return your machine and reorder it again. You should note that the return may be subject to 15% restocking fee.
