Why is my display stuck at 1280 x 800

#1 Post by DDGuy » Tue Jan 29, 2008 7:40 am

So me and my colleague have both identical T61 given in my office. Both have product code 6457-A78, which as per Lenavo site gives 15.4in 1280x800 LCD. I was mighty [censored] by this as I wanted higher resolution (at least 1024 on vertical side) but couldn't do much....until today when I noticed that my colleague can go upto 2048 x 1536. I have checked using system information under NVIDIA Control-> Help-> System Information and both our machines show exactly the same data.

I double-triple checked our product code sticker at the bottom of the laptop and its IDENTICAL, so is the NVIDIA control panel S/W itself (both show same version under help->about) ...and yet his shows some extra options (eg. he gets more options under refresh rates while I get just the one).

There must be a simple explanation for this but I just can't get it and its bugging me no end. Can some one please help me before I raise a stink at our IT help desk

I bet you were looking at the setting for the external monitor. The internal monitor can't have the "2048 x 1536" option unless you have a QXGA screen like I do on my R50p's. Your colleague's widescreen T61 definitely can't have a QXGA screen, which has a 4:3 aspect ratio.

your LCD is a WXGA (1280 x 800) monitor. It can't and wont go any higher than that. If your buddy unchecked a safety option that states, "Hide modes this monitor cannot display" then all options will be available but they still wont work no matter what.

At least not working properly. The screen would still show only 1280x800, and you would need to scroll the screen to see the additional pixels.
