Download Thinkvantage System Update from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... VSU-UPDATE

It will give you easy access to all the Thinkvantage software including the onscreen display you are talking about.

thank you for your answer

Does thinkvantage system update run?
When it starts up, what do you see?
Do you have the option to connect to the update server?
Do you see a list of programs you can download and install?

Or does it come up with some error or "cannot run for some reason" message?

Failing this, and assuming you have deleted your recovery partition, you may have to contact Lenovo and buy the system recovery CDs from them. This will then restore the thinkpad to factory settings.

I think this might help

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-68000

But as stated before run the system update program and check the optional updates as well.

thank you all
