So, I am looking to buy another LT for work, have a wonderful T43, SXGA that I have been using, and now currently use an X61t, which I am not so crazy about the screen quality. Sacrificing real estate, AND the screen quality is just not the highest level of brightness, contrast, etc.

I am thinking, just go tried and true with T61, get a great screen and give up the tablet functions, maybe add some wacom pad or something.

But, is the current screen quality up to snuff? I really want a GREAT, bright, contrasty screen.

Should I try to find an UXGA screen from old? Will they ever come back to current models?

None of the T61 has Flexview. You have to look for a 15 inch T60p UXGA or T60 SXGA+. They may bring it back at some point.

Imo, based on the Samsung on my T61p, the current T61 non wide sxga+ screen is not bad, but not great. It is brighter (and the whites are whiter and the blacks are blacker) than the similar resolution/size screen on my previous T42p, but the text does not appear to me to be quite as crisp. But it still is acceptable, especially if you turn the brightness down a bit which makes the lack of crispness less noticeable, imo.

The default Lenovo color profile is pretty poor, again, imo, but can be considerably improved by adjusting the color calibration or selecting a different monitor color profile (there are several better ones that conveniently come preconfigured with the machine and can easily be selected in lieu of the Lenovo default profile.

So overall, after making a few tweaks, I'm basically satisfied with the screen but it would be nice if it was higher quality and I would happily be willing to pay more for a better built in display.

After owning a t61 for a couple of weeks (and a t43 for a couple of years) I can say that the t61 is definitely brighter. However, there is significant backlight bleed along the lower edge of the screen. The t61 has no screen flex (while the t43 would flex in light breeze). I noticed no other differences between the two in terms of sharpness or color accuracy.

Pretty sure he's talking about the 14" SXGA+ panel on the T43, given the subject. That panel is not flexview anyway

OP - I had/have (it's my sister's now) a T43 SXGA+ panel in my T40, and I have an SXGA+ 4:3 panel in my T60. I honestly can't see a difference between the two, both panels are great and a joy to use.
