Thinking of soaking money into the T60

#1 Post by Miller88 » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:41 pm

Depending on whether or not the college requires me to buy a new laptop, I'm thinking of doing a few things to the T60 ...

1 - Is there a 1280x1024 lcd for the 14.1''?
2 - What CPUs can I put in - Right now I have the 1.66 core duo but it bogs down substantially when a class requires me to run 3 virtual machines

There is no 1280x1024. Just XGA (1024x768) and the great SXGA (1400x1050) in 14" screens.

I believe the highest speed in the T60 was 2.33 Ghz which is the T2700 Yonah.

If you want speed, put max RAM and, depending on your model, a faster disk speed.

Right now it has 2.5gb of memory, forgot to update the sig. I thought about a 7200rpm HD but when it's bogging down with the virtual machines, cpu usage is all the way up and I'm not really using the HD that much.

The 1400x1050 is a 14.1'' 4:3 like I have now?

Most likely I won't upgrade the screen.

Maximum RAM is 3GB, T7600 Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz, and hard drive-wise, whatever the SATA limit is I guess...I have two 200GB drives (one in the Ultrabay), but there are 250GB ones, but not yet at 7,200rpm.

I up'd my T60 from 1.5GB to 3GB RAM, then a week later I moved to a 7200rpm 160GB hard disk...the hard disk upgrade made the machine seem snappier than the RAM boost.

WD has a 320 GB 5400 RPM drive - I installed one in my T60 last week.
