FireGL v5250 temps

#1 Post by kelehman » Fri Feb 08, 2008 10:52 pm

Hello all,

I know that there is ALOT of temp threads about GPU temps on T60's, But i haven't found a whole lot on the T60p's with the v5250. Here's my story. I noticed that lappy was getting pretty warm while the visualizer is playing on WMP. The visualizer is one that I downloaded and the Author says its it is very intense for the GPU. But I also dont think that it would be any worse than any game that has come out on the last few years. So, I fired up TP fan control and here are the results.

CPU 89°C (0x78)
APS 54°C (0x79)
PCM 51°C (0x7a)
GPU 107°C (0x7b)
BAT 40°C (0x7c)
BAT 38°C (0x7e)
BUS 55°C (0xc0)
PCI 69°C (0xc1)
PWR 70°C (0xc2)

I thought 107 was very high. Anyone else with the 5250 want to let me know what thiers get up to?

I am running vista ultimate, and ATI powerplay is set to High Performance. I normally have powerplay turned down, but the visualizer was jumpy with it on "balanced".

Thanks!

All of your temps are too high

Something is wrong with your temp. Everything is high. Your BAT measure at 38 and 40 Deg C? What's your ambient temp?

Here's mine.

Wow, mine is running much hotter all around. My ambient temp is @ 22*. Thank you for posting you temps. I have only had this machine since august 2007. I'm thinking about pulling out the keyboard and maybe blowing out everything with some air. My apartment seems to get dusty. I guess I will call Lenovo sometime and see what they say, I just dont want to go through the hassle of having to send it in, but if i have to I will.

Thank you!

Also, in my BIOS the setting for adaptive thermal management o High Performance. Is that the best setting?

Hi,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think blowing dust off will resolve your overall high temps problem.

My ambient temp is around 25°C, so you should expect your BAT numbers hovering a few deg above ambient even while charging.

The numbers I gave you were with battery charging and system running on AC.

I have open up my system last week to apply some Artic Silver 5 in hope to lower my GPU temp (didn't really do much), and I can tell you that you won't find too much dust inside below the keypad since there is no air flow there. Plus, you need to figure out why your Battery Temp is 15°C higher than ambient.

The one area you are going to get lots of dust is around the air intake/exhaust. You can get a air can or air compressor to blow dust off this area. This is typical maintenace, but I don't think it will do much in your case.

My suggestion is to get a temp reading in 4 scenerios below:

AC Power
1) idle
2) load

Battery Power
3) idle
4) load

I'm guessing here, but you might have a problem with the Battery overheating while plugged in, thus heating up the whole system.

You could also run on AC with the battery removed to see what the temps look like.

Hope that help.

Ok, thank you for the quick reply.

I will post temps tomorrow, I have to go out of town for a night.

PS. I decided to try speedfan real quick, I noticed that my CPU temps were normal with that software. They read 55* just browsing the web and went to 71* and 70* (shows both core's) under a load. Wierd.

Thanks

Here are my temps. I took these temps about 10-15 minutes after startup. I know I put a lot of data in this post, but i would rather put too much info than not enough. My temps seem just as high with the battery removed. I think that i am going to call lenovo this week.

Here are my AC Idle temps (Everything max performance!)

Thanks

EDIT: I was reading th T60 temperature thread and blew into the exhaust ports in the right rear as some people recommend. I am astonished at how much that changed my temps! These are my temps after 20 minutes of heavy graphics:

CPU 67°C (0x78)
APS 41°C (0x79)
PCM 39°C (0x7a)
GPU 90°C (0x7b)
BAT 35°C (0x7c)

kelehman, could you uninstall the display driver...?
rollback to Windows/ATI driver and take temps again.

i´m almost sure that is the problem...
Thinkpad for sure...

Hey,

i had the same problems with my T60p and the 5200! in idle i got over 89°C temp of the grafic and the cpu over 75°C in IDLE!!! so i searched for solves.

the best thing that worked was to open the thinkpad and clean it out with a vacuum cleaner, but be carefull with the fan and the roations.

after i cleaned up my thinkpad, i got idle temps for the 5200v 59°C and for the CPU 49°C !!!!!!

shark

EDIT: my actualy temps with tpfancontrol:

CPU 45°C (0x78)
APS 34°C (0x79)
PCM 33°C (0x7a)
GPU 57°C (0x7b)
BAT 50°C (0x7c)
BAT 28°C (0x7e)
BUS 39°C (0xc0)
PCI 42°C (0xc1)
PWR 39°C (0xc2)
