What do you think of the new ThinkPad and Lenovo 90W Slim AC/DC Combo Adapter?

The ThinkPad® and Lenovo™ 90W Slim AC/DC Combo Adapter supplies power to your ThinkPad and Lenovo 3000 notebooks and simultaneously recharges the system battery whenever it is plugged into a standard ac wall outlet or the dc outlets available in airplanes and automobiles. what do you mean "what do you think of....."

its an accessory and it should work as described..

last time i got one it was larger than the original ac adapter but they all work..

so, what else do you need to know..

Just looking for feedback. Are there better choices? Negative or positive experiences with it. You know, what do you think of it?

They say that this one is smaller than a pack of cigs.

I use a Kensington 120 Watt universal adapter. It works with all thinkpads as listed here and cost about $30. Its under an inch thick and comes with multiple tips for other devices.

I do like the Lenovo slim adapter, but given the price, I will wait for it to hit ebay or used.

This is the adapter I have.

It would be great if I could find one that does my two T series, PDA, and Blackberry.

I have a Y-split on the kensington that charges my thinkpad and cell phone.

Yup thats the one. I decided to get the Kensington over the Lenovo one and saved about $100!

It works great and very thin.

I have the Kensington, too. The new Lenovo charger should be even smaller. Its up to you to decide if it is 100$ smaller

I think the Lenovo is geared more towards their thinkpads, I don't think it can power up other devices.

The Kensington has a plug for just about anything as listed here

Being a charger it works great, model is irrelevant. Whether its a T60 or X40, it does the same thing.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but don't all the 60 and 61 series Thinkpads use a 20 volt adapter? If the Kensington maxes out at 16 volts, it's incompatible with them.

The output voltage range is from 3 to 24 V ! (you were looking for the input voltage)

That is the beauty of this universal charger, it is compatible with virtually any notebook out there (as long as you have the right tip)

I might have stated wrong, but this unit maxes out at 24v.

I am on the road quite often, and I live in couple different places, so I often lose track of the extra tips.

It is EXTREMELY relevant and your brief experience so far with an x40 says nothing useful at all about how well it will function for a T6x.

As a real for instance, some of the Targus power blocks that are specified for up to 24V output cannot sustain adequate regulation at even 20V output levels, but they will work fine at 16V output.

How are you sure I don't have a T6x series and that I haven't already used the Kensington on it?

I only list the thinkpads I use. We have about 5 modern thinkpads in the household, two of which are 20v models.

I hope the carrying case is better quality. For nearly $130, the huge brick of an ac/dc charger comes with a cheap carrying case that feels like it will break upon using even once.

what T6x models do you have and how did the kensington perform with them? it would be beneficial to be specific.

a friend of mine bought the kensington adapter to use when traveling with his 14.1" T60p and it got so hot while charging his battery that he ended up returning it. i received my lenovo slim ac/dc adapter yesterday, tested it today, and am happy to say that it's no hotter than the 90W a/c adapter.

the included case isn't great by any means but isn't fragile, either. i'd pay another $5 for heavier material though.

I received the slim adapter two days ago.

It was even smaller than I had hoped for (can't wait to unload the Targus brick from my bag).

Unfortunately, the Y connector for charging 2 devices at once won't arrive for a while I am told.

I forgot to mention that I have a Targus travel charger for my car. The tip for the T41 doesn't fit for beans. It's so lose that it charges on and off with the slightest movement. It drives me nuts!

I have a T61p and X61s. The X61 worked normal even doubled up with the ipod but felt more heat when using the ultra base.

When plugged into the T61p, the charger got very hot and even hotter with the Y-splitter. I asked Kensington if this was normal; still waiting for a reply.

You do need a different plug for the 20v models that does not come with the kit and have to be purchase separately. Though you can get it free if you ask Kensington within the US.

Because I was thinking of getting a Kensington myself...
Also, how does a 90W charge the laptop and another device at the same time? Doesn't the T61 (with discrete graphics) need 90W?
