Unable to restore from backup

Hello folks!

I purchased this T60 last Mar'07 and have been using for my small consulting business. It has Vista - Business loaded. I had a full backup taken in Jun'07 on 3 DVDs. Recently I had a HD crash and Lenovo sent me a replacement HD and the laptop is back up and running but I am unable to restore my complete system status from the backup.

I am able to read the DVD files and its contents thro windows explorer but the restore function does not work.

I am using ThinkAdvantage - Backup and restore option. In restore, it asks me to select the media and when I select CD/DVD, it loops back to the same option of selecting the media and does not proceed further.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

SP

Call Lenovo up and tell them about it. If they sent you a hard drive under warranty they will send you a set of restore discs for free.

I actually called and they did sent me Rescue disk (3 dvds) and that actually helped me get my T60 back to normal. But the backup that I have was taken was a complete backup including all my application data files and all folders. This backup I am not able to restore. Otherwise the laptop is operational without any issues.

Any cluses?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

My guess is that you have to have the same version of restore software running that you used to make the backup. If you can find the exe on your backup set, its properties should tell you its version number.

This problem is one I havent found a solution for on my T60 runing xp. It seems to me that taking a backup using RR and restoring works just fine IF you have the original hdd in place. Saving the RR to an external source and restoring to a different hdd (like when one crashes and you get a new one) has NEVER worked for me. I dont know why, but its a big issue and a very common scenario that has me iffy about using RR ever again.

You can try calling lenovo support and explain your situation just like this, and hope that they have a solution. But for future work, I like the vista complete pc recovery as it lets me save a complete PC image and restore my files to any hdd I please.
