Hello Folks,

How are you? I recently bought Thinkpad T61 15" (Nvidia Graphics) with Model # being 6459CTO. My memory config. are PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (3 GB - 2 Dimm) .

I am just frustrated, with this supposedly a great workhorse. Everytime this laptop is on battery this machine hangs up . Same thing on AC Power works without a glitch !! ( No problem what so ever) . Vista 32 bit event viewer as well didn't show any warning besides "unexpected Shut down"

I am really disappointed with the results ...I didn't expect this kind of performance with the laptop for which I paid close to $ 2000 !!! I guess these is what you come to expect from new owner Lenovo...

I was hoping that some you experts out there can recommend me specific remedy based on your experiences. I really want to keep away from sending my laptop for repair as the last resort as that takes week worth of my work.

Please let me know if I have missed on something or if further any information is required.

I have the same machine (but only 2 GB Memory). I was getting similar problems when the thinkpad went to sleep. It was solved by doing the BIOS upgrade that came out last week. Hope that helps.

I applied ALL the fixes that came from Lenovo System Update , which also included BIOS upgrade as you mentioned. I have 32-bit Vista Business and Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 Ghz. I have 3 GB Ram ( 2GB after market). BTW, I even tried removing and putting RAM back into there slots...no help.

I also have Intel Turbo Memory 1GB ...somehow I am thinking this could be the culprit ( pure guess) . I am just so tired with machine hanging everytime and having to reboot.

It is turbo memory. You'll need to either disable it, or download the latest 1013 driver from Intel, and upgrade Vista to SP1 (currently floating around on the net, or available via MSDN).
If you want to get specific, you can disable hybrid disk power savings mode, which should eliminate the hangs. Why lenovo never caught this is beyond me..and they still have the ancient 1004 drivers up.

I have a similar problem. When I startup my T61 on battery, it hangs up after the welcome screen. I never see the desktop window. It is OK when it is on AC. I don't have turbo memory. I have 3 gigs of memory 8890CTO(?) core2 duo Windows XP service pack 2. It is very frustrating indeed.

I have this same problem - and have since I bought my T61 six months ago.

I have a Thinkpad T61, 646066U, with 2 GB of RAM, and Vista. The computer sometimes freezes when I am on battery. 'Freezes' is not quite right - it is weirder then that - but the result is that I have to reboot and I loose my data.

This problem has been driving me nuts so I would love to find a solution.

Regarding the suggestion to "disable hybrid disk power savings mode". To the best of my knowledge I don't have a 'hybrid disk' unless that is something that everyone has.

My BIOS is fairly recent - v1.26 from 2007-10-18.

Hello T61 enthusiasts,

Is there any solution to this problem (issues with T61 on battery mode)? I don't have hybrid disk and still the problem persists. Restart in battery mode hangs up after the Windows welcome screen.

Its been driving me crazy lately.

For me, yes, the problem is solved.

I turned off Windows Ready Boost from the Intel Turbo Memory console. I didn't even realize I had turbo memory.

I'd have to say that I'm pretty dissapointed with Lenovo. I thought that buying a Thinkpad would get me reliability. this problem caused me to loose a fair bit of data and some hair.

Hybrid disk power savings mode can be found in:
Control Panel]->[Power Options]->[Change plan settings]->[Change advanced power settings]->[Hard disk]->[Windows Hybrid Hard Disk Power Savings Mode]

I think the equivalent in Thinkvantage Power Manager is Hybrid Sleep. I had it both off for battery and AC.

note: I don't have ITM (opted out because I've seen to many problems with it...blame Intel ) but the hybrid option does still show for me. I have ReadyBoost enabled thru SDHC and no problems so far.

Lenovo doesn't know this problem and it seems to be a vista OS error.
The problem occurs when you are in battery mode.
You can bypass the problem in battery mode using high performances option but it is not a good solution. I hope some good technician will be able to quickly describe this problem and fixed it
