Memory Upgrade for T60p (8744) - Starts with 2GB

I did a search but didn't quickly find info on this - might have if I had spent some times digging.

It looks like the T60p (8744-J2U) comes with 2GB of memory - 2 x 1GB modules, right? This comes pre-loaded with Windows Vista Business.

Is it true this can only recognize 3GB of memory? If so, can you really upgrade past 2GB - wouldn't it be more optimal to have 2 identical modules? Or does this matter (i.e. for dual channel support)?

Suddenly my system seems to be constantly utilizing a lot of memory and most of it seems to be tied to IE and a couple other common apps (Outlook, Firefox). I would like to get some additional memory but want to make sure it increases capacity AND efficiency!

Thanks

I dont know what you mean by utlizing a lot of memory...do you really mean ur CPU or memory?

Thanks for the link - very helpful! Trying to determine now - is there a still a significant advantage in going from 2 x 1GB installed to 1 x 1GB + 1 x 2GB (3GB total)?

Or, by losing the dual channel/symmetrical is there only a negligible gain with this? Would it only be advantageous to really add 2x2GB. even if I am only using 3GB.

In reference to utilizing memory - at about anytime I can look at the Windows Task Manager/Performance Monitor and find that at any time my Physical Memory Usage runs at least 1.20GB. Even idling based on the applications I keep open (which is more business related apps).
