I just got my t61p 14.1" T9500 ... Yes it is a T9500 (.1Ghz more) . I upgraded the HD to Seagate 160GB 7200rpm, added a 2gb ddr2 (3gb total), and did a fresh install of vista ultimate 32 SP1.

It is faster than the t7500 I got.

 I wish i could customize it with firewire and media reader. But oh well ..

What say ye about the display?

#32 Post by BrianR » Fri Feb 29, 2008 1:19 am

I'm thinking of getting the T61p with the 15" 1920x1200 display.

I have a 6mo old MacBook Pro 17" 1920x1200 beast and the screen's great.

The only T61p I saw was last Sept. and it didn't impress me compared to my screens from past machines (A21p, T42p for example).

Those of you with new ones, what do you think?

Thanks!

So what is wrong with your MBP?

I'm currently trying to decide between a ThinkPad and a MacBook Pro myself...

The MacBook Pro has one major flaw: I have to do major surgery to change the internal hard drive. I often run Server OSes and Client OSes in beta forms.

With my Thinkpads it's one screw (or none on my T42p for example).

The other issue (releated to the hard drive) is I want to run Windows Server 2008. I know it will run great on the T61p (like on my T60p). With the MacBook Pro, there can always be drivers issues.

Cheers,

Brian

For me, the problem with the MBP is the one-button trackpad.

I almost never touch the HD so that's no issue for me. And I always use an external mouse with a gazillion buttons when I have my computer in my lap. Laser mice work well on sofa cushions. :)

Two-finger right-click works fine. Two-finger scroll does too.

I want to run Windows Server 2008 dual boot. Are you certain it will work on your T60p? Will the drivers work? TIA

Yes. I've got Windows Server 2008 RTM x64 installed with the Hyper-V role. It's not with me right now but IIRC any drivers that didn't come with Windows I got from Lenovo and just used the Vista drivers.

I know lots of people at MSFT run Windows Server 2008 on Thinkpads (T60s and T61s).
