Help with Win XP drivers on T61p

#1 Post by kj2oo2 » Wed Feb 20, 2008 10:39 am

I searched the forum and was not able to find step by step instruction on how to install a clean win xp on the T61p.

Is there any particular orders I have to follow to install the drivers?

I am able to get most drivers to work, except for two devices under device manager. SM BUS CONTROLLER and Unknown device.

Maybe its the ultranav driver that I did not install???

I have the 8891-CTO with the following configuration...

INTEL CORE2DUO PROC.T9300
14.1 SXGA+ TFT
NVIDIAQUAT.FX570M 128MB
4GB PC2-5300 667MHZ 2DIMM UN(TRCKP+TOUCHPAD)FINGERRE
100GB HDD,7200RPM
DVD REC.8XMAXDUAL LAY UB-S
PC CARDSLOT SM CARDSLOT
INT.WIRE.WIFI/LINK4965AGN
INTEGR.BLUETOOTH PAN
6 CELL LI-ION BATTERY

I also notice that I am not able to use Fn + F5 to turn my bluetooth on/off, however I do see the light turns on all the time. (light below the screen)

Any help will be appreciated

It probably doesn't matter a lot, as updates get installed in any order over time anyway.

I tend to do BIOS, EC, and other firmware (like CPU updates) first. Then I do Ethernet (so I can get things). Then I do Video and Audio (as these are basic). Then I do the rest.

I always do Wireless and Access Connections separately and together (uninstall both, restart, install wireless NIC driver, restart, install Access Connections, restart).

I do not use any automatic method to do these things. I am happier to download my own updates, file them in a meaningful place, explode them into C:\Driver\Winxpp and install from there. Allows better control.

I also start with the preload because (contrary to a lot of mis-information on this topic), the preloads I have used (many models) work properly and do not cause resource or other problems. I do uninstall stuff I don't need (Picassa, Office97, Norton consumer, CSS and R&R).

Anyone know what the SM Bus Controller & Unknown device are?

I downloaded all the drivers from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67853

Is there something that I am missing that is not on the above link?

It looks like the SM Bus Controller is the Intel Chipset driver that has been resolved.

I am still stuck with the Unknown device.

Do you have the ACPI driver? It is the Thinkpad PM Manager in the Windows Device Manager.

I have both installed

Power Management Driver for Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP/Vista
Version 1.43 (7kku06ww.exe)

Power Manager v1.22 (7ku712ww.exe)

Isn't ATMEL for Vista only?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-58054

his package provides the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) driver for Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit, WIndows XP and XP Tablet Edition 2005, and Windows 2000.

This release supports the following systems:
- ThinkPad R60(*2), R60e(*2), R61(*2)
- ThinkPad R61i (Machine types: 7732, 7742, 8918, 8932, 8943)(*2)
- ThinkPad T42, T42p
- ThinkPad T60(*2), T60p(*2), T61(*2), T61p(*2)
- ThinkPad X41, X41 Tablet(*1)

- ThinkPad X61, X61s, X61 tablet
- ThinkPad Z60m, Z60t, Z61e(*2), Z61m(*2), Z61p(*2), Z61t(*2)
- ThinkPad Reserve Edition(*3)

Notes:
*1: Supports Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 only.
*2: For Windows Vista, the TPM device driver is included in Windows Vista. No update is needed from this driver package.
*3: Supports Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit only.

Says right there that TPM is included in vista and you don't need to install it, however, you should install that on a system running XP.

just tried without any luck.

I get the following error.

This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software.

setup will exit.

????

Also tried this

Windows XP:

1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
2. Right-click My Computer on the Desktop, then select Properties.
3. Click the Hardware tab.
4. Click Device Manager.
5. Expand the System devices category.
6. Double-click Intel(R) Management Engine Interface.
7. Click the Driver tab and the driver version will be displayed.

However I do NOT have Intel Management Engine Interface under system devices
