T61p and RAM questions (pic)

Hello,

Computer specs in the signature.

I've got a couple questions. I put in 4 GB of the GSkill RAM, and this is what showed up in POST.
Image (Sorry for the small resolution, it's a capture from my a video taken from my cell phone camera.)

Basically, it says it found 3070 MB. However, the BIOS says 4096 MB. Is there some hardware limitation I don't know about?

Also, I'm trying to run Memtest86+ 1.70 from the Ultimate Boot CD, but it hangs on Loading /boot/memtestp.....Ready. Anybody know anything about this?

EDIT: It seems that Memtest86+ is at version 2.01. I'll go try it out now.

mod edit: added pic notification to subject.

That post concerns the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit OS's. This is in the POST before any Windows OS.

Should the POST be displaying 3070 MB of RAM?

POST should show 4GB in mine opinion, but much more important is what shows (and can be used by) OS. I wont care about POST if there will be 4GB RAM in OS (64-bit, of course).

That post linked above is about mainboard memory limitations too, read more carefully... and T61(p) with 965 family chipset should be fine with 4GB RAM.

if the BIOS shows 4096MB then it's properly recognized by the system.   if you install an OS capable of memory hoisting (server 2003, vista x64, XP x64, various flavors of linux, etc.) and none of them register more than 3070MB, then you have a reason to be concerned.
