Wireless USB option on T61 15 inch - questions

I was looking through configuring a T61, either a 14" or a 15" and found an interesting options known as the Wireless USB. This is supposed to be the bluetooth killer in that the 'wireless' USB world.

Wireless Personal Area Network

UltraWide Band (UWB) [add $70.00 $52.50]

The problem is that this option is NOT available when custimising the ThinkPad T61 15 inch widescreen with integrated graphics and Mobile Broadband. I was thinking maybe the wireless USB device is at the same spot as the mobile broadband so it can't be added on those T61.

Questions:

Anyone have expereince with these wireless USB?

Anyone has one of these in their T61 and know where it is located on the motherboard?

Anyone ever successfully configure this wireless USB on the 14" T61?

Thank you

When I called up Lenovo and asked, they told me it was an external dongle.

it's a small card that plugs into a socket on the system planar located approximately under the Insert/Home/PgUp keys.   everything about it is 100% internal including the antenna running up the display.   it's not a "dongle" by any means.   it's #7 on this page.

i have it on my T61p but have yet to find a use for it.   mine is a CTO unit and WUSB was a free, undocumented option when i ordered it back in august.

Time to refresh my mechanical engineering skills to read that breakout chart....hmmm, interesting.

It may have come in dongle form for other variations and internal for the 15 inch lenovo. I think most manufacturers would need to supply dongles in the future. For example, if you have this on the lenovo and the old printer is way over there....the printer would most likely would need something like those bluetooth dongles to get the wireless effect (ie plug into it's USB port)

So at the moment your lenovo can't even talk with lets say a USB mouse?

Thank you both.

it could if they were available and i owned one.   unfortunately i haven't found any WUSB mice yet.   everything is either bluetooth or wireless over an FM radio frequency.
