4:3 laptop monitor to 16:10 widescreen external monitor??

I have a SXGA+ (4:3 aspect ratio, 1400X1050) T60, and was wondering if anyone was using a widescreen external monitor with these laptops (16:10)... Does the image get stretched or does the video card output at the correct resolution? My video card is the ATI mobility radeon x1400 m54 if that matters...

:?: Any opinions on running a 22" 1680X1400 or 24" 1920x1200 external monitor with this SXGA+ laptop would be much appreciated!

No problem with 1920x1200 on my T60p (FireGL V5250), and no problem as well on my T42 (Radeon 9600). I assume the x1400 can at least do what the 9600 can do...

There is no stretching. You must be in "extended desktop" mode though so that the resolution on each display is independant.

What if I don't want to use the external monitor in extended desktop mode, but rather as the only monitor... (not mirrored either)...

Thanks PaulB for the extended desktop info, that's useful to know!

No problem with simply using the external monitor as well. You need to set it up as the "primary" monitor. I use this setup when I dock my laptop.
By the way, I have a 24" 1920x1200 monitor. It's a real pleasure to use.
