T60p BSOD : Is there any solution available?

Hi All,

Recently I purchased used T60p from one of my friend.

After Windows Update & Hardware updates, I am very frequently getting BSOD with NMI : Memory error/ Parity Error message.

Is there any permanent SOFTWARE solution / workaround for this problem?

OR

It can be only solved by replacing motherboard?

I am asking this because my T60p has no warranty left.

So before I decide to keep it, I need to know whether the NMI issue can be resolved or not.

Thanks a lot
Sandy

Run Memtest to make sure that it is not caused by faulty memory module.
Then run a Linux live CD to make sure that the problem is OS independent.

I don't think its the motherboard. Most probably its your ram memory.

Beside Memtest you can run the MS ram test

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Its faster or run PC-Doctor. It should be on your T60p otherwise download it from

I'd the same error on my T60P after two weeks of my purchase. the original 2GB ram was faulty. It was under warranty and Lenovo replaced it.

I think you can buy a new 2GB ram for about $140

If I recall correctly that is a problem with the wireless drivers. I don't have it bookmarked anymore but IBM had an article on it. I think the solution was to get wireless drivers >10.5.* I think.

Thanks all for your replies.

Here is what I did.
-----------------------
1] Got the system with factory installation. It was working fine. Then I did Windows Update & Updated all security patches. I also updated all the HARDWARE UPDATES from WINDOWS Update. ( I did not do any Lenovo Updates)

After Hardware updates, I started getting BSOD. (One more observation is I switched OFF the WLAN adapter after HARDWARE UPDATES.)

I also installed the latest WLAN driver from IBM, but still I was getting BSOD.

2] So I did CLEAN FACTORY INSTALLATION again.

After this BSOD was not coming. Then I did WINDOWS UPDATES for Softwares (XP Software Patches). I have not done any HARDWARE UPDATES. (I think there are totally 7-8 HW updates for T60p )

Now I have used the system for almost 5+ Hrs without getting BSOD. (But, the WLAN is ON throughout this period)

I will update any new information here.

NOTE : I have run the memory test, GPU test from PC-Doctor & everything is FINE.

Thanks a lot
Sandy

Sometimes just reseating the memory and dusting out the interior of the pc resolves these problems.

The first thing I did when I got my T60 was to do a clean install of Windows XP SP2. I went to Intel for the drivers, not Lenovo. Other than unsupported AHCI SATA drivers, I have NEVER taken a BSOD on this machine under the following operating systems.

Windows XP Professional SP2
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit

I have an Intel GMA 950 and have had both a 3945ABG and an AR5418 in here.
