Penryn CPUs available in Canada now

#1 Post by icantux » Mon Feb 25, 2008 9:13 am

Hooray!

Just looked at the site at Lenovo Canada and the Penryn CPUs finally made it to the Great White North.

Now time to order a new Thinkpad. Question is whether to opt for a 2.5GHz 9300 or 2.8GHz 9500.

If you can afford it, get the best :)

Wait a sec... I think Lenovo Canada made a mistake. That T9500 IS NOT a 2.8GHz but only a 2.6GHz ... Cross-checked with Intel site on mobile processors.

Extra $250+ not worth the 0.1Ghz upgrade. Sticking with 2.5GHz ... should be plenty.

I wouldn't buy anything from Lenovo Canada

If I were you, I wouldn't buy anything from Lenovo Canada. They have some serious problems with their computer ordering system. And judging from this *2.8GHz Penryn listing error, I would avoid it like a plague. My guess, if you order this non-existent 2.8 GHz penryn, you will wait 8 weeks, then the order will get cancelled, then get lost. When you call in to ask, they will say your laptop is sent and will arrive shortly.

But then again, you don't have to order this 2.8GHz penryn to wait 8 weeks. Just order any laptop from lenovo canada and you will wait 8 weeks.

And then when you finally get it, you will be missing a ram stick - otherwise known as a Chinese-pocketed-my-ram.

Well, I'll take my chances. I need a more performing laptop and I'm not willing to buy something that will fall apart on me in a few months. ... and there's no bloody way I'll opt for a widescreen laptop - as that's all the competition offers nowadays.

Finally, Penryn! Beautiful Penryn!!!

Can the T61 be configured with a built-in webcam? I don't see it on the site - can it be done over the phone?

Never seen that option. Perhaps on the 15.4" only?? Sorry, but I didn't venture into widescreen territory.

Nice to have the Penryn option now though .... :D
