T60 wireless trouble

I have a customer with a 2007-66U.

They are using wireless. This ThinkPad does not work well with wireless. Connection is fine with 3 or more bars but when it goes to two bars I can connect to the router but no IP address, gateway or DNS information is available.

I removed AC and am now using Windows to manage wireless.

The strange thing is in the same area of the house two Sony laptops work.

The next thing I am going to try is to install a 2nd wireless router and disable the main wireless router because it is in the garage. The router is the FiOS Actiontec.

Please help.

Brad

Brad, I have had similar personal experience with a SMC router and a T43p using Windows to manage the wireless connections. In our case an Apple ibook and a Dell D600 would work perfectly but the T43p will often drop off and won't get IP address from the router's DHCP server, no gateway and DNS tables either. Even upgrading the BIOS to the latest version in the SMC router didn't solve the problem. At the end, I had to dump the SMC router and get a Netgear WGR614.

My understanding is the little subtle differences in implementation of various wireless protocols play a havoc with the connections - especially when there is so much ground to cover for interoperability testing for the manufacturers.

Sorry can't help you with the problem other that to suggest try a different router as you are already planning to.
