Limiting processes on new T61 with Vista

After my brand new T61 starts it has 81 processes running. I wanted to know what services I could disable/stop in order to limit the # of processes.
The laptop is running on a network.
How do I disable the fingerprint option from appearing each time I start the laptop?
Thank you for your time.

The *number* of processes has nothing to do with performance. The number may affect startup (which I do once in a workday and view personally as inconsequential). So just focus on things you actually don't want or need and stop those things from starting up. MSConfig or some such (I use StartupCop, which is excellent, but not freely available any more). Startup CPL is pretty good, and is still available. ... JDH

Thanks jdhurst.
Might you know how I can stop the fingerprint screen appearing each time I log on?
Cheers!

I don't use or have the Fingerprint reader, but it is a startup process (I think), so the tools mentioned should list it. If not, someone else here who has the reader may know. ... JDH

Great place to start to learn about what the services in Vista are and what you can change.
