Thinkpad Outsourcing and Factory Codes

Hi all: I've been reading that Lenovo has outsourced production of Thinkpads to various Taiwanese ODMs. On the bottom of my T61 there is a one letter "factory code" (mine is T and someone else on this board reported a factory code of H). Does the code correspond to the ODM? Any insight on this would be quite useful. Thanks in advance!

When did you hear that Lenovo was outsourcing to Taiwan? To my knowledge that was a rumor that was later debunked in late January of this year. I believe there was a forum thread here that corroborated the rumor for a while, but press releases from Lenovo have all denied it. See here.

Thanks for the link. I'm still interested in deciphering the factory codes, however. Can anyone shed some light on these? Which factory does "T" stand for? Many thanks again!

Your topic is a good one. In another thead we were trying to nail down the culprit manufacturing plant producing the faulty motherboard.
