What's the maximum capacity hard drive at 7200 RPM for T60p?

The max capacity hard drive(s) @ 7200rpm (that can be installed in your hard drive slot or in the HDD ultrabay caddy) is 200GB - Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 or E7K200 & Seagate Momentus 7200.2 ST9200420AS or ST9200420ASG - there are a few at higher capacities but these are only @ 5400rpm.

I believe the T60 uses SATA as well.

Yep! The T60's HDD slot is a SATA interface.

The difference main difference between the 7K200 & the E7K200 is that the latter is enhanced for "Around-the-clock data operation"

The Hitachi 200GB 7200 is one AWESOME drive. Yes, SATA. Yes, T60/T60p. I run two of them, and the one if the Ultrabay runs equally as perfectly! The 160GB 7200's and 5400's are great, too!

I am considering upgrading my t60p's Hitachi 7k100 100gb with a 7k200, but is it really that much faster? I know that I am comparing a 2005 hard drive to a 2007 hard drive. More storage would be nicer, but I have a 500 gig external for most of my data.

BestBuy has the 200GB 7k200, with enclosure and cloning software for $179.00. Granted, this is not cheap, but once you take into account the enclosure and the cloning software (they call it upgrade kit), it's not too bad.

Yes but that's for the bare drive without the external USB enclosure.

However, personally, I prefer to run the second drive in the ultrabay using the Lenovo Serial Ultrabay hard drive adapter as I feel the reliability, speed and convenience with that method of connecting the second hard drive are all superior to an external USB enclosure, so I don't need a USB external enclosure. I would recommend people go for the NewEgg deal and spend the money saved on the Ultrabay Adapter (if you don't already have one) which is usually less than $50

I just finished upgrading my hard drive. Initial observation

1- Its quieter than my 100GB hard drive

2- Its slightly faster as well.

I used my Acronis True Image 11 Home edition for cloning. The only thing was service partition took 8.5 GB from the hard drive (It was about 4.5 GB in my 100GB drive). Don't know why since I don't use R&R. I have a total of 177GB now.

The reason why the service partition is double is because you used the "automatic" cloning method with Acronis TIH. When you do this, it proportionally scales the existing partitions to fit the size of the new drive. If you want to have the normal size service partition and reclaim and make the extra GB usable, you have to do the cloning procedure again using the "manual" method, and then the program will give you an opportunity to resize the two partitions to the size you want. Make sure you do so in a way that allocates all unallocated space to the regular partition.

The automatic method is good when you are cloning drives of equal sizes.

b) Does the hitachi-sourced 7K200 offer the special head parking capability needed for the airbag support?

a. Yes.
b. Yes, the gyro-accelerometer is built-in your thinkpad, you would need to install APS software to make use of it.

Hi, reading through some threads on drives - looks like the 200GB 7200rpm Hitachi (07K200) is a great upgrade option.

My 100GB 7200rpm drive is dying - a replacement is being FedEx'd from Lenovo. I wanted to upgrade this to add capacity - is this the best drive you think (performance, quality, etc)?

While I would like the 7k320, think I won't justify cost and wait!

Just thought I would see if this was indeed the best way to go. Are there any difference going from a 'Lenovo' drive, as long as I use recovery discs will it all be the same? (APS, etc)
