Cracked T61 case :(

#1 Post by californicator » Wed Mar 05, 2008 12:02 pm

I brought my T61 to class yesterday and as I packed up to leave, it slid from chair-level height to the ground. Luckily, I had it in my laptop case. :( :( :(

Unfortunately, I now have a crack in the plastic casing on the left side of the notebook where the vents for the fan are.

Anybody have experience in having this fixed under warranty?

Unless you have the all inclusive Thinkpad protection plan, it most probably won't be replaced under warranty. I don't think regular warranty covers accidents like these.

if you got accident protection plan for your T61..your covered..
if not, you're going to have to do the repair yourself...
if thats the case ..next thing is to see if the structure frame or any other internal components are damaged like fans, battery, CD Drive, HD worst case: Motherboard.
If you got the time and interest ,They're not that hard to take apart and its a fun weekend project..the plastic casing runs around $100 maybe less..if you have the heart to take it apart.. its fun..
if the damage doesn't bother you..you can keep it as it is ..
or sell it as parts :?
good luck.

duct tape always makes a nice statement.. :)

"i've been through the wars and all i have to show for it is the duct tape repair".. :)

after the initial shock and unhappy reaction, a small crack would not bother me so much..
it really means that you have a road warrior.. takes a licking and keeps on computing..

i have a 760CD that has big holes in both top and bottom and it was still running last time i powered it up..

This is why I always buy the thinkpad protection plan :p

a bottom case shouldn't be too expensive on ebay

Has this accident affected the operation of the unit? Or is it simply a cosmetic problem?

Plastic parts can be purchased from "That Place" or others if you need them.

If the computer is functional, screen undamaged etc, I wouldn't be too alarmed. But that's only an opinion.

I hope your T61 isn't too badly hurt.

It is.

similar problem here on a T60, seems to be a weak spot.
