#1 Post by TroySJ » Wed Mar 05, 2008 9:24 pm

Hi Guys,

I have bought a T61 with nvidia discrete graphic , and an advance minidock.

What I would like to do is to connect my TV through VGA and my external monitor through DVI, and Idealy extend my laptop screen to the external monitor and project the same thing that is on my laptop screen to my TV.

Can you guys help me to that

Thank you very much,

Troy

Hi,

My TV does have a VGA input, I don't have problem with connectivity, My main problem is that I can not get all three work together, it switches only on 2 of them and it becomes a mess when I want to switch between them

I want to have My laptop monitor, my external monitor, and my TV to work at the same time, my External monitor on DVI extended of my laptop monitor and on VGA project the same thing that is on my laptop monitor

Please help

well you should be able to run a monitor via DVI and VGA at the sametime but i don't know if you can also have your main LCD running at the samething, its just usually those 2 or something else. I've never heard of all 3 going at the sametime, especially not in your configuration. It's usually just a stretch of the main one onto the other 2.

Maybe "MultiMon" can do what you want tho.... google that :)

I could be wrong, but I read somewhere that a thinkpad on a dock can only support one other external monitor.

This means you can use EITHER the DVI on the dock, OR the VGA on the dock, OR the VGA on the thinkpad.

If you had the full on advanced dock wiht PCI slot, you will be able to add a video card ot the PCI slot in the dock and run another monitor or TV off that.

So how many monitors can I hook to to a TP in an advanced mini dock and extend my desktop to then?

When docked, I have 3 video ports - DVI and VGA on the dock, and VGA on the TP.

You can use 2 Displays at a time.

DVI+VGA
Internal+VGA
Internal+DVI

And that's it.

Thanks Dummvogel.

That's what I thought when I said "one other external monitor" several posts up.

TroySJ, I concur. Any 2. Never all 3 at the same time. <Fn>+<F7> should cycle through all combinations, provided all devices were hooked up at the notebooks power on. You may find the Display manager software useful in you situation (personally I uninstall it)
