You cannot use an OEM COA of Vista to request a 64 bit replacement media. Furthermore, Lenovo said they do not isuue Vista Ultimate 64 disks (though they do have Vista Business 64 media).

Are you sure you had recieved a Vista Ultimate 64 DVD from Lenovo!?!

Here I had thought that Lenovo was still a step better than most other vendors with regard to OS discs. But after a call to the US support center tonight, I'm terribly disappointed. And if I had been checking in with this forum for the last week I guess I wouldn't have been so surprised.

I had read that XP downgrade discs would no longer be allowed by MS after June(?) so I figured I'd call to get a set while they still existed. And, the rep told me no, they are not available AT ALL but the restore/recovery discs that SHIPPED WITH MY VISTA ULTIMATE SYSTEM ARE XP DISCS!

And that there is also no way they can provide Vista on discs, the only thing I can do is run the "create backup media" option form the computer. Which is well and good--but I like to make sure I've got real OS discs with all the repair/recovery options they may have, not just "nuke 'em" discs.

But apparently at least one of you is getting Vista discs, as the only solution to a "but I already hosed my computer" problem. So the tech who told me "no way" was...what is the word? Lying.

I know that MS's own licensing division has been really slamming vendors about "No Media!" and designing the "make" utility so it can only make one set of backup discs. But I'd heard repeatedly that Lenovo still offered media. Or at least, offered the right recovery discs WITH the computer!

Baffled, disappointed, and heading towards Home Depot to buy some split rails, 'cause some of these folks just need to be given a free ride out of town on them. (Colonial style, with the rounded side of the rail facing DOWN, like they never told us in grade school.)

Having "real" plain OS discs available to repair a system has saved my butt in the past, if MS thinks there's any way I'm going to risk going without them in order to make their anti-piracy campaigns simpler (their excuse for the new OEM licensing terms of "no media") they've got another guess coming.

Anyone wanna gimme a hand with this split rail?<G>

So go out and get an "Anytime Upgrade" disc. You can do the repair with it.

I only know it come with by shipment, I just try to use it to test, and its work. Only things I cannot sure if my shipment is actually a U64 or it is just a mistake.... please remember, I got 2 xp recovery disc (august 07 and January 08)

the machine come with a u32, and a u64 windows anytime upgrade

I want to discuss more detail, my t61p get in US, I am now in Hong Kong, and the disc made in Taiwan, but ship from lenovo in singapore......

They had told me they only can borrow me a set of disc, as they also say they don't sell. But US lenovo don't 'borrow' oversea, and lenovo hong kong also don't 'borrow' as 'software package' in the vista recovery disc in 'Hong Kong' is not same in 'US'. I had filed a complain about xp disc not warning, borrow not sucess... barr barr barr,...... a lot phone call, finally they able to 'sell' me one.

Chan, in the US normally no manufacturer "lends" media. What they'll do if they can't sell/send a set to you, is tell you to send your computer or hard drive back to them by overnight express, and they "rebrick" the hard drive, copying the original software load to it and leaving you to do the rest, as if it was a new computer.

Which discs did who sell to you, for what price?

They need me to paid usd$32 for a u32 recovery disc.

SC here also purpose the 'rebrick' also, but they also say they don't get any recovery image for US t61p, so only choice is I pay.. They can only recovery local sell thinkpad.

I just found out that when my X61T Vista Business arrived it never came with Vista Recovery / Restore Disks but it came with Win XP Tablet ones.

I thought I had the Vista ones so I pursued and ordered and asked them to send me XP ones. Looks like now I have 2 copies of the same [censored] thing.

Here is where I requested them... Phew!

Anyone care to trade Vista 64 bit Disks or atleast upload some of the .ISOs for me?

Just wondering, it's been a long time since I used a recovery disk set.

Doesn't the recovery disk set have all of the bloatware?

Or do you have a choice of what to install from the recovery disk set?

The recovery discs will return the ThinkPad to the state it was in when it left the factory, bloatware and all.

In some ways and some experiences its better to install from the Recovery Discs and uninstall some of the stuff because they drivers and everything has been properly checked & tuned in the right order (assuming).
