T60p to T61p Question

Before the current round of Lenovo discounts run out I needed to ask if there is a compelling performance reason for me to upgrade my T60p. I would probably buy the T9300 processor and run XP. My daily software tools are AutoCad, Office 2007, and Acrobat Pro. I just do not know if I would realize any benefit from the new PC.

Any advice would be appreciated.

probably not for your use.   with XP you'll be limited to 3GB on either system and adding more memory and using a 64-bit OS are the only compelling reasons to get a T61/T61p.   upgrading solely for processor speed is a waste in my opinion.

plus, you have a 2623-DDU with an IPS display and a T7600.   i wouldn't sacrifice that for an incremental performance difference any day.

I am a "virtual"/MetaFrame worker. Even if I were brave enough to take on the challenges of Vista, I would no longer be able to work from home because the company that I work for uses XP. I am stuck in the XP world until they upgrade.

I always have the upgrade itch but it has to make sense.

Well. I will probably buy a 14" T61p anyway. At these prices a backup/bedroom computer is in order. For around $1100 I can get a reasonably well equiped XP machine. It will need a $40 memory upgrade but... The only thing that scares me is the display.

I know that there will be a faster better cheaper machine next week but it won't be like I sold the farm to get this thing and for the stuff that I run on it, who needs faster better cheaper. I'll wait for the next significant evolution - week after next.
