T61P 15.4 poor video quality (lines on windows media player)

#1 Post by newthuser » Mon Mar 10, 2008 10:00 pm

I have penryn T61P widescreen 1920x1200 screen. But when I play xvids or divx avi movie files, videos are poor in quality - as in vertical lines appear to simulate very poor video quality and there seems to be some horizontal banding as well. Happens only on windows media player. No problems in VLC. Updated the video card driver. all windows updates. Had nero 7 ultimate installed. removed but still the same problem. Any help?

sounds like a problem with WMP and not the screen.

must be the codec package you are using. Remove it and install divx directly from divx.com and see if that helps. If so then try another version of your package or another package
Current - Thinkpad T410si - Core i3 330m, 4GB, 250GB 5400RPM, WXGA+, FPR, BT, Camera, DVDRW, Gobi2000, Win7 Pro x32
Past - Thinkpad T410 - T400 - T61 - T60 - T43 - T42 - T41 - T40 - T23 - 600X

I second that. That happened for me. Remember codecs are directly linked with WMP.. while VLC has its own package. You must have installed conflicting codecs or something. I typically use K-lite Pack.. never had problems with it. Uninstall your codecs then reinstall will definantly work =)

Yes i realize that it must be the codec thing. but how do i link the codecs to wmp? I mean, uninstall/install codecs in WMP? All the video files work in VLC, nero video player, WinDVD, but not in WMP. Regular video files from my personal camcorder work fine in WMP without any problems though.

Use the Add/Remove panel to uninstall your codecs.
You can use GSpot (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/) to know witch codec is used to play a video file.
