T61... random beep issue. CPU?

I had the same problem with my T43, and now I have it in my T61. I can't believe this.

When using the machine last night, I got a random high pitched beep that did not seem to eminate from the speakers. it lasted about a second. Last time I had this issue IBM on three seperate occasions replaced everything in the system except the screen -- I got a new motherboard, CPU, memory, hard drive, front speakers, etc.

Has anyone seen this issue in the T61s? I'm sure it's not the board itself or the hard drive, they were replaced on attempt two I believe, and attempt three was the rest (attempt one I think they couldn't find it and returned it). I'm hoping with all that has to be replaced they could send me just a machine without a hard drive, swap it in, and send the new machine back, but I don't think I'll be so lucky.

I swear, I should have bought a Mac.

Seriously however, has anyone seen this?

If I think (correctly) what it is then try this:

Open Device Manager > Click "View" > Show Hidden Devices > "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" will be displayed in the list > Expand it > Right click on the "Beep" and select "Properties" > Driver > Type > Disable. (This will permanently disable the beep until you modify the settings again).

Hopefully it will just be the keyboard beep.

j/k.

I read somewhere else of another few cases of this nature (these were written up on blog sites). I'll try to find the sites again and post links here for reference.
