Seeing as how my T60 has discrete graphics, (X1400), is it possible to change it to a better performing card? I'm not someone who is afraid of opening up a laptop, but I've never had a laptop with discrete graphics before this one. If so, where can I buy laptop graphics cards (something like the X1900)

The GPU is integrated and therefore cannot be changed without replacing the motherboard.

There are motherboards with different GPU's that would be a perfect fit if you are interested.

I might be...what kind of $$$ would I be looking at? I imagine I could still transfer over my CPU and ram to a mobo with an x1900 (i.e. things haven't changed THAT much yet, have they?)

As far as I know the best card available would be the ATI FireGL V5200 with 256mb of VRAM. Your X1400 has 128mb.

You would be able to use your CPU and memory.

This upgrade would not come cheap. You might want to look for a trade or purchase of another T6x with the GPU you like.

Is that one actually better? I thought that was for CAD and that sort of stuff. I'm just looking to turn up the settings on my games.

So, are the mobos not sold by Thinkpad Parts, i.e. I would have to buy one to gut?

IIRC, that card was notavailable with Flexview, and Flexview is key for me (so is a 4:3 ratio...I'm figuring on making this laptop last forever lol).

NM, just looked it up, $490...ouch.
