Wifi Failure

I'm having technical problems with my T61 6775 right now, with the Wifi having failed twice today, necessitating a system restart. I'm very familiar with flaky Wifi, as my home machine is running ultra-budget wifi cards, with attendant overheating problems and other annoying malfunctions.

Does anyone know what might be the cause of the problem? I MIGHT have damaged the machine; having run an open laptop through a light drizzle for a 45 second walk and spilling pieces of chocolate cake through the keyboard, but that was days ago and the machine showed no signs of damage at the time.

Inst, I would hope the T61 could handle the light drizzle, but cake crumbs? Did the wireless drop at home on the 'budget' equipment? Can you verify that it was not the other equipment having the problem. My first thought would be to take the thinkpad somewhere else for a few hours and verify the problem is with the laptop.

I need to clarify; I'm at a dormitory at the moment. I thought I'd get in on the Thinkpad cult and thumb my nose down at the Apple cultists, but this is ridiculous. Lenovo support wants $99 to troubleshoot my Wifi problem. This'll probably be my first and last Thinkpad, at this rate.

And the machine has crsahed 4 times on the wifi issue so far. The HD is making a grinding sound as though it were on the verge of failure, and the Active Protection System has failed once already.
