T60 will not go to Standby by closing lid. **PIX**

I have always set the Lid Action to Standby/Suspend both in Windows Power settings and Thinkpad Configuration Utility.
This had worked consistently on my T41 for work and any other Thinkpads I own.
Changed to T60 about a year ago. Within this year, it happened 5-6 times; the T60 didn't enter Standby. It practically boiled over in my computer bag after getting home.
What is happening? Is the new type lid switch not consistent enough? This is the first Thinkpad that I cannot see the lid switch.
Anyone else have this problem?

Using XP or Vista? I do notice with Vista if I pull the USB mouse while the machine in in Sleep it will come back on. Perhaps something is waking yours up in Vista, too. A new signal on WiFi as you drive thru an area? The Active Protective System kicking in when it isn't supposed to? ....just some ideas...

We bought this one with Vista but converted it to XP. So it was a complete install from distribution CD.
Most of the time it worked correctly. But once in a while it would stay on with the lid closed.

Isn't there a microswitch somewhere on the unit that is actuated when the lid is closed? Perhaps that is slightly out of adjustment. I might be within the latch assembly or something. I don't have a detailed diagram so can't say for sure. Try closing the lid for standby and the wiggle the lid and see if the unit wakes back up. The switch might also be part of the rear assembly or something.

I bought a used T60p in poor shape and had to replace the display assembly and KB bezel. After that it doesn't go to standby by closingthe lid anymore.
Where is the lid switch located? Is there something I need to make sure assembling the display and KB bezel?

AFAIK there is a reed switch on the inverter that is tripped by a magnet on the keyboard bezel in the same area. If you waive a magnet along the bottom of the LCD bezel it should sleep the machine if the inverter piece is OK.

I found it, just above the power button. But there are no magnet near there on the KB bezel. Must be on the MB or the structure frame.

The magnet is on the underside if the bezel. Maybe yours is missing

This is a 15 inch T60p. I see no feature to hold a magnet on the KB bezel.

Post a picture of the underside of the keyboard bezel in the area closest to the LCD, adjacent to the inverter (or power button in your case).

Here is a picture of the 15 inch KB bezel upside down, left to left and right to right.
The notch in the middle is where to power button is and should be where the magnet is. There is only an mold ejector mark there.
Admin edit: Corrected URL of image (was linking to an album view instead of the individual picture)

I can't see the image, but if the magnet is missing then that is your problem with the lid close not registering. If waving a magnet in front of the inverter causes a lid close register action, then the magnet is missing on the bezel...no rocket science here. You should be able to find a magnet small/thin enough and strong enough to work in that application. Glue it on if you have to.

Not quite sure why the pix attachment didn't work. Bill may have some work to do.
Yes, I waved a magnet and it puts the computer to sleep. That particular computer is out of town at the moment so I'll have to take a look when I have access to it. It looks like the magnet is on the structure frame.

You can't attach images. You have to link to them on another site and if you want them to display, you have to enclose the link in Img tags (see Img button). Please, if you use Img tags, put a warning in the subject line of the opening post - which you already have done. Also limit the image size to 50K or less as per forum rules. If you want to use larger images, post a clickable thumbnail or just the url so anyone viewing can click on it.
I use
http://www.imageshack.us/ to host images on various forums. You can also use flicker or your own image gallery hosted somewhere. After copy and pasting the web url and enclosing it in Img tags, use the preview button to verify that you did it correctly.

Understood, I use photobucket.com to hold the pictures and had posted many in the "HDD/SSD benchmark" threads.
