Just received a mint (less than year old) T60 to replace my T42 (sold) and X41 (sold). It is a bit heavier and bulkier, but I am retired and don't haul it around a lot. I do a lot of surfing on it so the desktop is free for the wife.

It has the following:
core duo 1.8ghz (not core 2 duo)
X1300 video
15" SXGA+ flexview LCD
60 GB 7200 RPM main drive
3 GB memory
160 GB 5400 RPM drive in ultra bay caddy
CDRW-DVD drive in ultra bay caddy
bluetooth and wi-fi, NIC and modem
new 9-cell and 6-cell batteries (4 cycles on 9-cell, haven't checked 6-cell)
XP Pro and Office XP preload
still has recov partition
2+ years warranty left

I am impressed, thus far. The screen is great. My wife commented on how she could read everything off axis with this laptop, where she hasn't been able to on others I have had.

She has already commandeered it to play Kyodai Mahjongg. Usually plays on the desktop, but I put it on the laptop so she can use it when I am not.

I will be reviewing this forum, now that I have a T60. In the past, spent my time in the X4 and T4 forums.

Hello,
That's a very nice T60 - congrats! :D
With two harddrives, 3 GB of memory and an extra and large battery that looks like a pretty upgraded system.

Great spec - and you've got that wonderful FlexView LCD too - Of course should you wish to upgrade your current CPU in the future, your good to go right up to a Core-2-DUO T7600 2.33GHz Merom :D

... and welcome to the ThinkPad T6x Series forum as well :D

I don't know that surfing and Mahjong needs a CPU upgrade.

How hard to upgrade the CPU? What else is involved

The are still some brand new T60p units out there and I remember how nice the 15" SVGA+ screen was! They only have 2Ghx T7200 processors.

With Reference to a T60p - Have a look at this Post: Thinkpad T60p - CPU Upgrade to Core 2 Duo T7600 from mid 2007 - it's a good place to start with forum member's experiences etc.

YES, I am aware a CPU upgrade is not necessary for surfing and Kyodai Mahjong - Just wanted make forum member: carl3 aware should he WISH to upgrade his current CPU the option is available - It's nice to have options :D :D :D

Once again NICE SPEC

Thankd for the welcome and comments. I do use it for other things including various tasks for our church, and even do some picture editing on a small scale.

Nice to know there are options and a lot of "how to" information on this site.

I also just bought a T60 with the 15' SXGA 4:3 (non widescreen). I"m really happy with it, except for one dead pixel at the bottom of the screen.

Are you using a sleeve for your computer? I went searching on the weekend and I couldn't find a slim laptop sleeve that would fit. All the 15' Macbook Pro sleeves were just a bit too small as the 15' 4:3 screen must be a bit deeper than the 15' macbook.

Thanks
James

Haven't looked for a sleeve, as yet. I have a small bag with room for the computer and a outside pocket for adapter and other small items, or folder of papers. I just used that for the time being.
