Good prices for T60/T61?

#1 Post by iamdmc » Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:38 am

I keep seeing awesome prices on eBay for T60s and T61s...

T60 went for $450 shipped (Core Duo)
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... :IT&ih=001

T61 went for less than $600 shipped (Core 2 Duo)
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... :IT&ih=012

Another new T61 with T7300 went for about $700 shipped with 3 year warranty

I'm wondering - are these ACTUALLY good prices? The sellers seem legit. I was about to buy a T43, which goes for as little as $300, but for only $150 more I could get a T60 Core Duo...

And why does a T42 cost more than a T43? T41 laptops are less expensive than T42 on average, but more expensive than T43 laptops. What gives?

Should I buy a T60, T61, T43, or T42/T41? This will be for a family member, but I'm on a budget, so I want the best for the least (doesn't everybody ;) )

The 4 meg cache on the cpu helps some. I'm very happy with my T60 w/7200 cpu wsxga+ unit.

"The bottom has a little crack".

The display only has 1024x768 res.

The seller's feedback isn't that good.

You need to look at the specifications. The T42 and T43 each came in hundreds of different configurations. For example, a T42 with 1400x1050 Flexview, 100GB 7200rpm HDD, DVD burner and warranty remaining would be worth a lot more than a T43 with 1024x768 non-Flexview, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, CDRW/DVD-ROM drive and no warranty.

As far as this poll, my suggestion is go for a T60/61 and avoid the T4*. The T6* are much better machines than the T4*. It's worth paying $200 more.

Hmm... I've seen T4x series with very similar specs, only differences being CPU, and still T43 is cheaper, T42 is most expensive, and T41 is middle of the road.

I've used a T41, and it is an excellent machine. That being said, I checked out a T61 T9300 (for a friend) and it is an amazing machine, but bulkier than the T4x.

Any more input?
