Why am I having no problems? (t61 novice review)

Sorry if this post is annoying or taking valued space, but I thought I write just a little about my experience with my new T61 order.

1. The thing looks a lot cooler than I expected. It doesn't have the cheap Star Trek toy plastic junk feel or look that you see in the notebooks offered in big box stores. In fact, it looks a lot like the black MacBook. Having never seen a ThinkPad that I can recall, I was actually worried when I first opened the box... when I saw it, I was like "whew! nice!".

2. I'm having no problems whatsoever. I uninstalled Norton first thing, and the thing just cruzes with no issues.

3. I have read things about a dim screen, but I just don't notice that it is any dimmer than others. I have the 14" widescreen, and it is non-glossy! amazing... I thought they were all gone these days. Anyway, I'm sitting in a bright sunlit room right now and the thing is plenty bright. Most of the time, I have the screen turned down a few notches.

4. All my old software loaded up and runs nice and snappy. Based on recommendations here, I loaded NOD32 anti-virus with no slow down in performance noticed.

5. I have never used that red little eraser/mouse thingy, so I forced myself to give it a go. It is great! At first, it was a bit tricky, but it quickly became easy. Now, I know that if I ever want to order a thinkpad with no trackpad, I will be more than fine with it.

6. Bloatware is a big issue with new computers, but I have never bought a new computer with so little extra crappy software. It is really pretty darn lean.

So I am a novice and my little review isn't of the deep-tech variety. Reading internet chat about various products will drive you nuts with all the reported problems, so I felt that I should chime in as someone who isn't able to find any flaws. yet.

I'm new to Thinkpads too and I'm very happy with my T61. Last year I bought my Son an R60 and he absolutely loves it. I think that took six days to arrive, maybe seven. When it came time to replace my desktop and laptop a few weeks ago I choose Lenovo. My orders arrived in five and six days and that included two days shipping. I do a lot of photography and I don't see the T61 screen as bad at all, but I do need to calibrate it to match my suppliers printers. No junkware, lots of helpful tools for someone like me. I did get 4mb of RAM and Lenovo could have made it clearer on it's website that there was no benefit to this and I accidentally ordered a smart card instead of an express card - dumb - but the machine is just great. I find this forum a big help. Thanks to forum members who help us non tech newbies.
