Is there any way to get one of these out without using the tab? I have one in there that does not have the tab on it(don't ask how). I need to get it out so I may put a tab on there, any way I can do this without hurting the hard drive in there?

Is it the HDD removal tab you're talking about? If so then some clawed tool will do through which you should be able to grab the drive via it's caddy.

There is a screw hole (for securing the ultrabay) in the bottom of the laptop unerneath the ultrabay location. You can try using a small screw driver in this hole to push out the caddy a little bit and gently use a plier to pull the rest out as ryengineer suggests.

perhaps my method may not be the cleanest one - but a caddy purchased on ebay was "missing"

the tab and I used a #0 Philips head screwdriver to lock into the HDD screw (which is torx) and then just pulled out the drive. You only need apply pressure until the HDD unlatches from the SATA connector after that it slides out quite easly.

I misread your problem as being with ultrabay hdd adapter. Sorry about that.

take a piece of masking tape and a ruler..
slide the tape, sticky side against the top or bottom of the HDD, gently press the tape against the HDD and.... well, you can guess..

Got it out! Took 2 of us, had to push against the rubber edges on both sides at the same time to inch it out.
