Upgrading T60's RAM & HDD?

#1 Post by vinylzen » Mon Mar 31, 2008 10:21 am

I was wondering if any of you have done something like this

I have a T60 with a 2.0Ghz Core Duo, 2GB RAM, 120 GB HDD. I want to replace the HDD with a Western Digital 320 GB HDD and the RAM with a Geil 4 GB RAM pack (2 x 2GB RAM sticks)

I read somewhere on the G-Skillz RAM page that 4 GB RAM will not be compatible to laptops that aren't Intel Santa Rosa due to hardware limitations, is this true?

Welcome to the Forum!

Both upgrades will be fine. The BIOS will see 4gb but Windows will only see 3gb.

I have the exact same drive in my T60 and it was a breeze to install and upgrade. Save your money on the ram and get one 2gb sim. There appears to be no gains to putting in 4gb of ram given that Windows only sees 3gb.

I thought the limitation is not only from OS, but also from T60 chipset. I am running Vista 64 and would LOVE to have 4gb ram.

Bill, have you actually tested with T60/4gb combo?

Thanks

Core 2 Duo is required for the 64 bit OS. The spec in the first post lists a Core Duo. Depending on your T60's board revision a Core 2 Duo CPU could be a drop in upgrade.

I'm running a t60p 14" with 2x2gb OCZ PC2-5400 with no problems. Only 3gb is visible to OS, but that is a hardware limitation.
