Just curious to know what type of interface the T61/p systems use for the hard drive?
Is it SATA 1.5, SATA 3, or ATA-6?.
I'm looking at a Hitachi 200gb from Newegg as a replacement, and it is spec'd at SATA 1.5
There's also a Seagate Momentus 200gb, but uses a SATA 3 interface. Will either one work?
Thanks,
James

So either 1.5 or 3 will work? Any advantage to using SATA-3? Will the data bus in our laptops support it fully?

In practice, in current systems SATA 3 is actually slightly disadvantaged, because there is a real increase in power consumption, and hence lower battery life, whereas no existing laptop hard drive really takes advantage of the higher bandwith. This holds true for the Seagate vs. Hitachi comparison you originally asked about, I believe. You should check out the reviews of these 2 drives available at Tom's Hardware, specifically the head-to-head comparison notebook HD charts that lists access times, read/write speeds, power consumption, etc.
