Hi fellow thinkpadders!

I am writing this entry from the public computer room of the university since my thinkpad, for reasons unknown, won't boot into Vista. And here's my story:

Last night, I decided to do rescue and recovery. So what I did was I inserted the DVD recovery discs so as to restore the PC image I was using before. It took me around 2 hours to do the whole thing.

After the status bar for recovery reached 100%, my thinkpad rebooted. I thought everything was fine, until..

After the blinking cursor, which appeared after the Thinkpad welcome screen, a message popped out:

Bootmgr is compresed
Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart

The disc inside the drive was the "FInal C" disc. I kept on doing the ctrl+alt+del for quite some time, and the same sreen popped out.

Then I tried using the "Rescue and Recovery" labeled disc (this was the first disc produced after making a recovery CD). Then it booted using the DVD. However, instead of booting into Windows Vista, it kept on loading into the Rescu and Recovery environment.

I stayed up late the whole night (and wee hours of the morning) trying to boot my Thinkpad into Windows Vista with no luck. And I am very depressed and hopeless now that I can't boot into Vista. Though I could still access the files (through the Rescue Files option), I just couldn't boot into Vista..

I've been troubled the whole day wondering what went wrong.. And I really don't know what to do.. My thinkpad has been my one and only constant and formidable companion for the past 3 months, since I am on student exchange here in Singapore.. And I really am saddened (and heartbroken) that I cannot log into Windows and use my thinkpad productively anymore..

I hope someone would help me solve my problem..

Thanks a lot! :D

Your Thinkpad T61 came from the factory with an R&R partition. All you had to do to restore to factory was hold down the Thinkvantage button on boot. Doesn't anyone read the manual anymore...sigh.

well.. it wasn't really doing a factory restore, though i did that just days ago. What i am talking about is doing system restore using backup DVDs.

And i already solved it! The first time i did R&R was inside Vista. I don't know why it didnt work.. but it just didn't.

Then i did system restore in the thinkvantage environment.. and it worked!

Haha :D
