Upgrading memory T61

#1 Post by msteudel » Wed Apr 02, 2008 1:23 pm

Hey All,

Not really a hardware guy, I've been thinking of upgrading my t61 from 2gb to 3 or 4. I read the sticky that my machine running xp pro won't really use 4gb but that I might get some performance boost from symetrical memories. But then I also saw a reply that someone had lots of out of bound error messages, any thoughts on 3gb vs 4gb?

Lastly this was the memory I was thinking of getting ... geez it's cheap

Thanks, Mark

You'll get a boost from dual channel mode using either 3GB (asymmetric DC) or 4GB (symmetric DC). Do note that either way the boost is for all intents and purposes laughable with a 32-bit OS.

So basically it's really not worth upping to 4GB vs. 3GB unless you plan on running a 64-bit OS in the very near future or you can get 4GB for less money than 3GB.
