IWS for T61 in China?

#1 Post by hawaiianlungs » Fri Apr 04, 2008 12:26 am

I have a problem. Maybe somebody can give me more insight.

I have an older T40 which works OK.

I am going to get a newer Thinkpad.

I want the T61 Standard, but it is not supported in China.

I may have to get the T61 Widescreen.

I sometimes travel, but not too much. Maybe 3 to 6 timjes a year.

I mostly use the notebook as a workstation.

But I do not want the T61 to break. I have heard that the Widescreen is not as strong as the Standard.

I could take a risk, and pay to have ir fixed in China. I travel there and stay there a LOT, maybe 9 months of the year. I stay in China for 3 to 6 months at a time.

So should I get the Standard without support in China, or the bigger Widescreen with support?

Or should I consider another Thinkpad. I want a Thinkpad as I can have it fixed in China easily.

I want a powerful desktop workstation, sometimes to be uswed when traveling. Processor near 2.5 GHz, lots of memory.

The T61 Standard seems perfect, but it is not repaired under warranty in China, although it is sold there. Strange.

I would need to get a new case, as it may be 3,5 cm wider. (Widescreen)

Both are equally built in terms of sturdiness.

If your problem is IWS then look for topseller models, most come with full IWS support.

It depends on the model number of your T61.My T60p 2623DDU can't be warranted in China because this model was not sold in China so Lenovo China won't provide any technical support for this machine, also I can't register the IWS for this machine with Lenovo China
According to my limited knowledge, All the models being sold in the U.S are not supported by Lenovo China. The nearest area/country that you can get these machines served is Taiwan, Japan, South Korea or Singapore. :)

This is wrong, for t60, model 2623 is not eligible for IWS in China, but 2007 is fine. I've registered my 200762U for IWS in China and had no problem getting warranty service for it during my stay.

Go to Lenovo website and you can check the model number against IWS eligibility.

But I've heard that CTO models are not eligible for IWS :( not sure if this is true since most models are now CTO.

The widescreen is very well built - the best I have seen in a laptop, so don't worry about sturdiness.
