I have 2 brand new T61's right next to each other. both 14" widescreens and the one unit is noticably brighter than the other. save for the obvious things is there a reason why one would be brighter than the other? video card maybe? they both are not (p) models so is there different video card options or not? is there settings other than brightness that would cause this to be so? like in the control panel for the video card?

odds are just different LCD manufacturers. One's Samsung and the other is LG or something.
Keep the brighter one for you

your probably right. the one was custom built and shipped here from china and the other was bought from an in-states distributor. i will try and get fru for the one bought here in the states which is the one that is not as bright. the other one which is brighter will be tough to get info from as it was a gift and headed elsewhere. the ALWAYS helpful call into lenovo "assured" me that one T61 is EXACTLY like another T61, especially 2 that new. it would be really nice if lenovo in their infinite genius would use 1 supplier for their screens, and for the love of everything holy give us flexviews with lcd backlight in a widescreen format!!!!

You can put the serial# in on the lenovo website and get your build details. I posted the link here:

BIOS level setting
>Configuration
>Display
>Brightness
it comes set from factory at normal which automatically dims screen on battery power. there apparently is nothing you can do through windows to offset this. you have to change this in BIOS to HIGH instead of normal.
